30 MLB Teams in 30 Posts - 2022 Edition: #12

Welcome back to the next post in my 30 MLB Teams in 30 Posts countdown (plus the contest - see the bottom of the post for details on that).

#12:  Colorado Rockies (Previous Rankings - 2019, 2020: #8, 14)
Fun trivia on the back of this card - feel free to give your answer in the comments:  With which team did Rockies manager Don Baylor win a World Series?

The Colorado Rockies come in at #12 in this year's rankings, almost exactly halfway between their best (#8) and worst (#14) showing on my rankings for any year.

The state of Colorado is one of the few US states that I still have never visited - so it's on my bucket list for sure (as is the Rockies' stadium because it always looks so nice whenever I watch their games on TV).  In addition, for whatever reason I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Rockies going all the way back to their expansion year.  Back then, the Rockies and Marlins both joined the National League and my 11-year-old brain instantly decided that it was the Rockies which were "cool" and worth rooting for while the Marlins were only "sort of cool."  I did have a Marlins gym bag back in 1993 or 1994 for some reason, the details of which are now too fuzzy to recall.

Anyhow, I digress.  The Rockies are a perfectly fine team and one that is likely to stay in my top half of MLB teams simply because the Reds and Rockies don't interact all that much (neither team is exactly on the hot path the playoffs...and certainly not on a collision course to play each other in some sort of knockout playoff round).

Also worth noting, the Rockies mascot is a dinosaur and that's awesome.

Next time up, we move on to a team that was my "adopted favorite team" for a few years while the were out of it.  I needed a fun team to watch and root for and this team fit that bill.  Luckily, I never did buy a hat of theirs or anything because now that team sits outside my Top 10 MLB teams!

  1. I think I took the Astros a day too early. So I'm picking them until you do. :)

  2. I believe Baylor won with the Twins...I remember he had this streak of appearing in the World Series 3 straight years with 3 different teams. I'm going to vote White Sox this time.

  4. I'm going to take a guess with the Tigers. Not much fun now, but when Miggy was good and they had Verlander and Scherzer....

  5. Curious why you have the Rockies so much higher than the Diamondbacks since both are in the "the only guys I can name on the team are former Giants" category for me depite them being division rivals.

    1. One word: nostalgia. When I was little, the expansion team Rockies were exciting - pulling their cards was exciting, heck, the purple color was new and exciting (on a baseball jersey). I might not feel that way now but it was the enthusiasm for baseball (and baseball cards) when I was young that still feeds my love of the sport and collecting now.

  7. Fun team sounds like the Astros or the Jays... but I'm gonna go out on a limb with the White Sox. They're fun too.

  8. Those that picked the Astros got it right!
