Welcome back to the next post in my 30 MLB Teams in 30 Posts countdown (plus the contest - see the bottom of the post for details on that).

Edmonds as a Padre? I don't remember that! |
The Padres are another NL West team that has been slowly creeping back up my rankings - going from just outside the bottom 10 in 2019 all the way to being inside the upper half now in 2022. As you've noticed from many of my team write-ups this year, I have more and more respect for (most) teams that are decidedly trying to win year-in and year-out (unlike my Reds who may not win 20 games for entire season at the rate they are going).
The Padres are definitely a team that has been trying to win lately, though for whatever reason they haven't actually done all that much, you know, winning. Still, in this case it's the thought that counts - plus it doesn't hurt that the Padres typically have a few players that are fun to watch and if nothing else, San Diego is a lovely city (or at least it was 20 years ago in my one visit there).
My 2022 MLB Rankings (so far):

Hmmm. Pacific NW or Bay Area? Seattle seems like a much more lovable town than Oakland... so I'll go with my beloved Athletics.
ReplyDeleteIt's either Oakland or Seattle...since the Mariners are trying to win, I'll say they finish ahead of Oakland. Athletics are next up!
ReplyDeleteOn the toss up, I'll say Oakland. I don't see the Mariners as having done enough to warrant falling so far on your list.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm hoping this the Mariners.
ReplyDeleteAt least the Padres are wearing brown again instead of trying to look like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteGoing A's next. I'm a 70's kid, to me they're always the A's, not the Athletics.
I like that the Padres have become more competitive lately. I'll go with the A's for #13.
ReplyDelete50/50 pick here. Do I go with the crowd? (flips coin)... Yes! I'll take the A's.
ReplyDeleteA's it is!
