Barry Larkin
Year: 1992
Brand: The Sports Card Review and Price Line Prime Pics
Card number: 29
This particular set's name doesn't roll off of the tongue easily, that's for sure! From what I gather, this was a 66-card set where each card featured a particular player on the front and a scan of one of his notable cards on the backside. The set features players from many different sports which is no surprise since this set was basically advertising a sports card price guide.
As for this particular Larkin card, I do like the front image quite a bit. It's simple and the very 90s-esque "PrimePics" font choice doesn't end up distracting from Larkin's photograph (and the red color scheme works well with Cincinnati colors). Of course, this wouldn't be an early 90s set without at least a bit of purple somewhere on it but in this case the color works fine for the player name plate.
The back of the card is also kind of neat...and while Larkin may not have been super popular with collectors in 1992, he sure is these days! I can barely win any eBay auctions for needed Larkin cards...they always get bid up way past what my budget allows!

Never seen this set before. Was this card issue in a price guide or an actual pack of cards?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I gather, it was a price guide inclusion (I could be wrong)!
