There aren't a lot of bloggers hosting group breaks these days, in fact, I'm only aware of two who consistently host breaks (myself and Colbey over at Cardboard Collections). Colbey and I both do a lot of the same sorts of breaks (cheaper breaks with a nice mix of old and new products). As such, I love jumping in Colbey's breaks when I can - especially if he's breaking a box where there's a chance I could land a new, needed Barry Larkin card.
Over the past several months, I joined in a few different breaks with Colbey and finally requested shipment of my cards (he does "stacks" for people just like I do). While I won't show off every card I landed, I will try to go through some of my favorites.
1999 Pacific Crown Collection:
No Barry Larkin cards nor anything else much to speak of in this particular box break. The Sean Casey will go into my Casey PC (a PC that I may end up breaking up, still undecided). For now, at least that one is a keeper.
1999 Skybox Premium:
Here's a set that I know nothing about! The cards certainly have a nice, shiny gold foil on the front - befitting of the "premium" name I suppose. Unfortunately, these cards had quite a bit of chipping from where they got stuck together in the packs (a common problem with 90s cards I've learned, especially glossy cards). No Larkin cards (or other cards of note) here either...guess that is why I've ignored Skybox Premium all these years!
2021 Topps Archives:
Finally, a Larkin card! Truthfully, I already had that one but still, a Larkin card! I like the Topps Archives brand quite a bit so getting a handful of various Reds was nice - and a bunch will probably end up slotting into my Reds Frankenset (I don't think I'll be collecting the full 2021 Archives set as I've mostly given up on collecting modern sets other than Allen & Ginter).
1999 Topps Stars:
Another Barry Larkin sighting plus my first insert from any of the box breaks - a Frank Robinson reprint card from the 1999 Topps Stars set.
2021 Panini Mosaic:
Finally, we end with the break that I did the "best" on - my only serially numbered card out of the entire thing was that Jose Garcia #/99. I like the Tyler Stephenson base card as well here.
Overall, it's always a bit of a gamble joining in group breaks but if the price is right (and there's a chance for a new Larkin card), I don't hesitate to join in. The Reds aren't typically the best team to grab in a group break if you are looking for inserts, relics, or autographs but I'm generally not after that stuff anyhow...give me all the Larkins instead!
Thanks to Colbey for running all the breaks - and for those that might be interested in my group breaks I'd encourage you to join my Facebook group (and while you are at it, join in Colbey's Facebook group too...just don't grab the Reds before me).

Can't argue with a Sean Casey card, he's easily my favorite Red ... That Archives card barely looked like Bench until I zoomed in on it.
ReplyDeleteI did a double take on Bench too.
