Barry Larkin Collection 899: 1992 Upper Deck Team MVP Holograms - #29

Barry Larkin
Year:  1992
Brand:  Upper Deck Team MVP Holograms
Card number:  29
The 1992 Upper Deck Team MVP Holograms set was a 54-card boxed set.  Each of the teams at the time (26 total) were represented in the set with two cards, one pitcher and one hitter.  The Reds were (of course) represented by Barry Larkin on the hitting side and by Jose Rijo on the pitching side.  According to Baseballcardpedia, there were "only" 216,000 sets produced!

As for the Larkin card itself, obviously the hologram is the star of the show.  In fact, I'd say the card front looks a like what a future Upper Deck brand would look like (SPx).  The back of the card, however, is decidedly "old school" with a rather dull image plus a decent write-up.  I also have to mention that I don't like where the card number is located on the card - not the easiest to spot in a hurry nor is it overly conducive to sorting lots of cards from this set all at once!  That being said, I believe this particular Larkin card is the only card that I own out of the 1992 Upper Deck Team MVP Holograms set so I guess I don't need to worry about where the card number is placed!
