1998 Topps Gold Label Week: Packs 17 - 20

If you've been following along this week on my blog, then you'll know what the deal is for today:  More packs out of my box of 1998 Topps Gold Label!

Let's see what the next batch of packs brings us, shall we?

Pack 17:

53.  Scott Rolen
79.  Ben Grieve
34.  Moises Alou (Class 3)

Well, there's the third Class 3 parallel out of the box.  Seeded 1:8 packs, I don't expect we'll get a fourth which is too bad since I was definitely hoping we'd pull the Barry Larkin Class 3 since I need that one for my personal collection!

Pack 18:

8.  Randy Johnson
33.  Paul O'Neil
59.  Wade Boggs (Class 1 Black Label)

I really like the look of that Randy Johnson card - dude was a beast back in the day!  As for the Boggs, it's our second Class 1 Black Label of the box (and since those are seeded 1:12 packs, I wouldn't expect another in this box).

My chances at pulling a needed Barry Larkin card are nearly zero now unless we really luck out and find one of those super rare Red Label parallels...

Pack 19:

34.  Moises Alou
47.  Jim Edmonds
74.  Barry Larkin (Class 2)

Well, there's at least one Barry Larkin sighting in this box!  I've got a copy of the Class 2 Larkin already but it'll probably make for some good trade bait for me to try and secure a different needed Larkin card from someone.

Pack 20:
52.  Dean Palmer
84.  Travis Lee
92.  Mark Grace (Class 2 Black Label)

At 1:34 packs, we weren't guaranteed a Class 2 Black Label card!  While I obviously wish we had pulled a Larkin in this spot, that Grace card will probably end up being useful trade bait as well!

Overall, this was a pretty good set of four packs.  If all goes well, tomorrow we will finish off our box of Gold Label once and for all...and then I'll have to make the final decision as to whether or not I'm going to chase the full base set!

  1. Nice inserts this time! Happy you found a Larkin in the box, even if it was one you already had.

  2. Pretty cool that you pulled a Larkin parallel from your box. Hope you're able to trade it for another Larkin you need.
