Delivery Time! Christmas Cards from Angus!

I'm still working through a bunch of envelopes and packages that arrived prior to the start of 2023 - turns out maybe taking the better part of two weeks off of blogging around the new year might have been a mistake in terms of keeping up with my mail!

No matter, better late than never I like to say.  Today, we have a Christmas card from blog reader Angus.  Angus sent me a nice smattering of cards, but I have to lead off with this card of Pierogis.

Pierogis are a Pennsylvania staple and definitely a tasty food (even if not particularly healthy).  Pierogis can be served all sorts of different ways:  fried, steamed, etc. and with all sorts of toppings (cheese, sour cream, sautéed onions, etc.).  Basically, you are almost sure to find some sort of combination of cooking method and toppings that will make you like pierogis!

Another highlight of the Christmas card was this trio of Barry Larkin cards.

Did you notice the error?  The 1992 Topps Gold Winner card has Larkin listed as playing for the Astros rather than the Reds!  There is also a corrected version of the Topps Gold Winner card where Larkin is listed with the Reds.  The other highlight from the batch of Larkin cards is that middle Panini Sticker card - it's the Canadian/French version which I still needed prior to Angus' mailing!

Finally, we'll end with another cool card from the package:

That's a Post card from 1983 and it's a sort of weird size (it's the same height as a typical baseball card but slightly wider).  I've never seen cards from that particular Post set - probably in part because I was only one year old at the time ;)

Thanks a ton for the great Christmas card, Angus.  Sorry it took me so long to get a post up...but again, better late than never, right?!

  1. Glad you enjoyed the cards, and I'm laughing that I didn't even notice the Astros on that card. I just saw it was Larkin and put it aside for you.

    And pierogies are awesome!

  2. That Larkin/Astros error card is pretty cool. I have a stack of those winner cards. I'll have to see if I have one.

  3. Pierogies are one of my wife's all-time favorite foods from childhood. I had never heard of them until I moved to Buffalo.

  4. Pierogies are a Polish food staple. My mom makes some tasty ones!

  5. I didn't know about that Larking/Astros card either. I've also got a large stack of the winner cards to enter on TCDb along with a ton of unopened cellophane wrapped 10-packs of winner cards. So now I have more motivation to get started on that set and look for that error or corrected card.

I've heard of pierogies but never had one. I'm a rather picky eater but if they're good enough for Nachos Grande, then they're good enough for me. I'll be trying 'em first chance I get.

  6. Never knew about that Larkin error, and it's an odd one considering he never played for anyone but Cincy.
