I'm back with my next Not-So-Secret Santa return!
Today, I've got a package from TCDB user abide (aka Bob). This particular mailing was part TCDB trade, part Secret Santa which made it quite fun! On the TCDB trade front, I got a single card that I needed for my 1998 Topps Gold Label set build:
I'm doing my best to plug as many holes in that set as I can. Luckily, I'm only chasing the common "Class 1" cards. I can't imagine how difficult this set would be to build if I were to try all three versions of the base set (Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3).
Bob also threw in a trio of assorted Reds to round out the card portion of the package.
Now, for the Not-So-Secret Santa chunk of the box!
Bob sent me a pair of novels to read.
Daniel Silva is an author for whom I've read a few of his books so that was a safe choice. The other book (and author) are brand new to me but the book itself sounds intriguing. I've got quite a backlog of reading that I really ought to try and get through but The Satanic Verses is definitely going to go near the top of the pile to read!
Finally, the surprise of the package for me was a pair of LEGO minifigs (and their trusty steed):
I don't know if Bob knows that the Forestmen were my favorite LEGO Castle faction as a kid or not but these little guys will fit right into my childhood collection (which I still get out and build for my own son every now and then)!
A big thanks to Bob (aka abide) for the Not-So-Secret Santa return package! Bob definitely hit a lot of my interests and it made for a super enjoyable package to open. I have a few more packages to show off that also arrived as part of my Not-So-Secret Santa program so expect to see more interesting goodies in the upcoming days!

The Satanic Verses is an intriguing one for sure. I've never read it myself but it stirred up a lot of controversy and IIRC Rushdie had to go into hiding(or escape his homeland at least) from hardliners who would have captured/killed him. If you do read it, I hope you give us your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYup, it was a big international story for months. The book was banned in several countries, there were book burnings. Some book stores were bombed.
DeleteI have no idea how I missed that entire story about the book...Certainly intriguing to say the least!
DeleteSame Salman Rushdie who was just stabbed around or in the eye at a university in New York just a few months ago. Apparently the grudge is still going...he lived btw... a very interesting book and not nearly as controversial for most of us as it was for a particular group.
ReplyDeleteWas going to comment on the Legos... but after reading the comments on the book, I gotta admit my curiosity has been stirred.
