Today's the day that I finally get to finish off my box of 2023 Topps Series 1 (hobby). It's been a fun box to rip, even if we haven't found anything Earth shattering thus far. I would say it's clear that one should opt for a Jumbo box over a Hobby box for 2023 if you are looking for more (and better) inserts/parallels/hits. All that said, I bought this box with the main purpose of building the base set so for that reason it's been a success thus far!
We have six more packs to rip plus the bonus silver pack. Let's get to it!
Pack 19:
184. Beau Brieske
118. Eduardo Escobar
308. Christopher Morel
6. Paul Blackburn
169. Gabriel Moreno
128. Alec Bohm
302. Vinnie Pasquantino
122. Yonathan Daza
258. Erick Fedde
222. Jose Altuve
289. AL Batting Average Leaders
112. Orioles team card
172. Jazz Chisholm, Jr.
35. CJ Abrams
This pack was all about that base!
Pack 20:
120. Patrick Wisdom
4. Yadier Molina
205. JJ Bleday
177. Kendall Graveman
66. Brandon Crawford
154. Jonathan Aranda
60. Josh Rojas
279. Yu Darvish
259. Mark Appel
43. NL Batting Average Leaders
248. Checklist
30. Kenley Jansen
270. Yusei Kikuchi
263. Diamondbacks team card
More base! I've got to be getting close to the full base set by now. Hopefully, by the time you read this post I'll have my entire batch of 2023 Topps cards sorted and my want list updated!
Pack 21:
315. Corey Seager
65. Triston McKenzie
196. Jordan Romano
228. Ryan Pressley
85. Max Stassi
147. Daniel Vogelbach
277. David Villar
175. Liam Hendricks
12. Jeffrey Springs
One-Two Punch: 12P-24. Robbie Ray & Luis Castillo
93. Angels team card
284. NL Wins Leaders
186. Teoscar Hernandez
231. Rony Garcia
As a Reds fan, that One-Two Punch card makes me sad because Castillo used to be part of the Reds One-Two Punch rotation. Unfortunately for me, Reds ownership has no interest in actually producing a winning baseball team and so I get to watch any once-decent Reds player play for some other team.
Pack 22:
59. Eduardo Rodriguez
321. Garrett Cooper
242. Jarren Duran
143. Nestor Cortes
176. Kody Clemens
255. Cal Quantrill
257. Yadiel Hernandez
86. Gregory Soto
198. Vladimir Gutierrez
152. Nick Pivetta
11. Rafael Devers
139. Joe Barlow
271. Guardians team card
234. Cardinals team card
Another pack of nothing but base cards. Kind of refreshing, honestly, to see packs like that out of modern products. I'm not mad, I approve in fact!
Pack 23:
161. Carlos Carrasco
52. Mathew Liberatore
225. Corbin Burnes
149. Josiah Gray
181. Yordan Alvarez
202. Tony Gonsolin
200. Freddie Freeman
297. Abraham Toro
106. Willy Adames
1988 Topps: T88-29. Graham Ashcroft
240. NL RBI Leaders
310. Checklist
329. Mark Canha
137. Kyle Hendricks
Woah, a relatively common Reds insert and I didn't own that own yet. Nice!
Now for the last regular pack of the box...
Pack 24:
53. Dulan Cease
236. Shane McClanahan
232. Ian Happ
13. Giovanny Gallegos
163. Miguel Vargas
285. Oneil Cruz
20. Pete Alonso
250. Adley Rutschman
62. Aaron Judge
58. Ivan Herrera
81. Ozzie Albies
306. Jesse Winker
69. Caleb Kilian
219. Dodgers team card
Well, it took to the final pack but I did finally pull the Rutschman rookie card. I wasn't looking forward to having to trade for that one so I'm happy to have pulled a copy for myself. Now, let's see if we find anything amazing in that silver pack box topper:
Silver Pack:
T88C-3. Bo Bichette
T88C-50. Nick Pratto
T88C-4. Christopher Morel
Blue: T88C-80. Rhys Hoskins (#/150)
Alright, not bad! A nice blue parallel numbered out of 150 and a great way to end this particular hobby box. My next step (after scanning cards for this post) is going to be to sort through all of my 2023 Topps Series 1 cards and figure out what I still need from the set. Once that's done, I'll update both my want list here on the blog as well as over on TCDB.
Update:
Since the time I wrote this post, I've had the opportunity to fully sort my box of 2023 Topps Series 1. Here's how I did on the base set:
Missing cards from the box: 9, 28, 49, 56, 71, 72, 99, 125, 145, 155, 156, 233, 276, 288
Overall, the box produced 316/330 (95.76%) cards in the base set. That's actually a much higher percentage than I was expecting - perhaps the percentage is a bit higher since Topps seemingly (?) reduced the number of inserts/parallels in hobby boxes this year? No matter, I'm happy with the outcome of my box.
Unfortunately, I didn't pull any of the missing cards in my blaster from Kerry so I will have some trading to do to finish off the base set (I have no plans to buy any more packs/boxes of 2023 Topps Series 1 at this point in time).
Thanks for reading along, everyone!
Comments
I've gotten used to getting at least one insert in a pack, so packs of just base is a bit jarring nowadays. Thanks for showing off the box!
