In 1993, Upper Deck released two versions of their flagship set. For pack buyers, every card had a silver hologram on the card back. However, for a lucky factory set buyer, you had the chance at finding a full set with gold holograms. According to baseballcardpedia, each 15-set factory case had one set which had gold holograms. Unfortunately, there's no way to know which set you have until you open the box!
In the land of parallels, different colored holograms on card backs definitely fall under the "why bother" category. That being said, knowing how (relatively) rare the gold holograms are kind of makes me appreciate this particular parallel a bit more than it probably deserves!
I can see where most collectors could care less about this parallel... but I do tip my cap to UD for thinking outside the box and doing this.
