Over the years, I've mentioned the fantasy baseball league that I'm a few different times. That league is run by Ryan (he of the Munnatawket Allen & Ginter custom mini fame). Ryan and I recently matched up for the week and (unfortunately for me), I got beat in the battle for last place in the league (at the time). It's been a rough go of things for me in terms of fantasy baseball this year but at least the loss to Ryan resulted in a surprise mail day a week or so later:
Yep, a new-to-me Barry Larkin card! That's a 2021 Topps 206 mini card of Barry Larkin. There are a bunch of different Larkin cards in that set, this particular one has the Piedmont back.
One of my big card projects that I'd like to get done this summer is fully sort and organize my 2021 Barry Larkin cards. I've completely sorted, catalogued, and updated on TCDB my Larkin collection up through the year 2020 but I haven't yet started on 2021, 2022, or 2023. The year 2021 has 614 different Barry Larkin cards in the TCDB database so there's a lot for me to go through! Luckily, I won't be trying to collect all 614 cards since I ignore anything with a print run under 25...but even so, there's going to be a LOT of cards to update! However, thanks to Ryan I'll have one less card to add to my 2021 want list...and I guess that worth losing for a week in fantasy baseball!
I really wish these had card numbers. Crazy that Larkin had 614 cards issued in 2021 alone!
ReplyDeleteNice of Ryan to send this your way after beating you in fantasy baseball.
It never ceases to amuse me how Topps deletes cigarette references on these cards even though they're literally being sold as homages to tobacco cards. In this case they changed "The Cigarette of Quality" to "The Brand of Quality."
