Another summer has come and gone, but for me, Summer 2023 was definitely the summer of board gaming! I don't think I've ever played as many games as I did this past summer - most of those thanks to my son who has really gotten into games!
The month of August wasn't quite as productive as the rest of the summer but I still managed to play a total of 22 different board games spread across a total of 58 plays (for comparison, I had 102 total plays in the month of July). As usual, here's the graphic for the month of August:
Not a bad month at all - and a nice variety of games this month! I got a number of games geared more toward older people in this month thanks to the fact that two of my three siblings were around for about a week (and they both enjoy games as well).
Overall, my son is still loving Kingdomino (as do I, see
my recent review of the game here). In fact, Kingdomino was our most played game for the month for the second consecutive month. The various Ticket to Ride games (and the somewhat similar Trekking the World game) are also favorites of my son so no surprise to see them on the list.
As for my brother, he and I knocked out games of Lost Ruins of Arnak (we loved it), Everdell (he liked it more than I did but it was a good game), and Undaunted Nomandy (I definitely liked that one more than him). Throw in a play of Ark Nova (fun but too long), Ra (amazing), and Dinosaur Island Rawr 'n Write (finally got that to the table) and you get a darn good month of board gaming! My sister also got in on the gaming action with Cat in the Box (way better than I expected), Just One (fun), and Resistance (not the game for me - in fact, I gave her my copy of the game to take home with her as she loved it way more than I ever will).
I'm quite certain my September plays won't be nearly as exciting - or numerous - but hey, I'll always have the summer of '23 to look back on fondly when it comes to board gaming!
