Highlights from a Case of 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter: Box #3

I'm back with another box out of my case of 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter.  This particular box started off on the wrong foot - my first pack was short a number of cards (and as I'd learn by the time I was done ripping the box, the reason for that is that my third hit was missing from the box)!  That said, this box later produced my first ever "special" relic that I've pulled from a Ginter pack so in the end all ended well.  We'll get to that in a moment, but first I have to start with my first Barry Larkin from 2023 Ginter!

Barry is a short print in this year's set so acquiring his minis is going to be even more annoying than usual.  That said, at least I got one of his base cards (I'll need a second for my Larkin binder as this one will go into my set binder)!

My box topper was yet another Dodger, this time a Clayton Kershaw cabinet card.

I've now pulled three cabinet cards in three boxes...the Ginter gods are basically daring me to say I'm going to collect the full set.

Besides the Larkin, I also found one of the rather rare In Action partial parallels:

Yeah, that Franco card would have been a much better pull a few months ago.  I do like the old timey camera on the In Action card design at least.

This box only produced on Foil Filagree parallel and it's of someone I never heard of (Valena is a tatoo artist according to the card back).

Box #3 produced four mini inserts including my first "By Any Other Name" card.

I'm going to have a long road to complete all those mini inserts but I've already started making progress by trading for some over on TCDB!

Finally, we get to our hits.  As I said at the top, this box was short one hit so I only got two hits.  The first was my second Gallen relic from the case, definitely disappointing to get a duplicate there.

My other hit, however, was much more interesting - it's a Music to Your Ears relic of the Marimba #/200.

The Music to Your Ears relics are seeded 1:1,460 packs and this is by far the thickest card I've ever pulled out of a pack of cards!  I don't really know what to say about this card other than it's certainly unique!

A fun relic surprise kind of makes up for the missing relic (and duplicate relic) but I still can't help but be a bit disappointed by collation in the early going of the case.  And, for those wondering, I'm trying to write these box posts as I rip the boxes so at the moment of writing this I have no idea what the remainder of my case holds!

  1. Geez, A&G looks really nice this year. Too bad I'm mad at it.

    1. The mini inserts are quite nice this year, I've been super impressed. I feel like Topps nailed the spirit of the brand with the minis. I like the base set as well, though that's perhaps an acquired taste type of thing for other people (it's more colorful than usual which I like but I get why others may not).

  2. I know those unique relics can fetch a good price should you decide to part with it, so hopefully makes the missing hit worth it.
