Barry Larkin
Year: 1995
Year: 1995
Brand: Donruss Top of the Order
Card number: none
The 1995 Donruss Top of the Order set contained 360 collectible baseball cards in the guise of a collectible card game. Cards were released in starter decks, booster boxes, and double decks. The set itself is broken into three rarity tiers (180 common cards, 90 uncommon cards, and 90 rare cards). Common cards were seeded 8 per booster pack, uncommon cards came 3 per booster pack, and rare cards were only 1 per booster pack.
Barry's card is one of the 90 rare cards in the set which probably helps to explain why I didn't even know that this card existed until I updated my Barry Larkin want list by going through TCDB and looking at all of the various Larkin cards for the year 1995.
I have no idea how the game was played but I can at least say that the game cards are fairly well designed from an aesthetics perspective. The various needed numbers and symbols seem fairly easy-to-read and yet the card itself still (mostly) looks like a regular baseball card. Of course, the rounded corners do giveaway the fact that this is a playing card of sorts but still, overall, I kind of like the occasional oddball set like this!
