Earlier today, Topps released the first sneak peek at this year's 2024 Topps flagship design. The player chosen to be the poster boy for the set was none other than the Reds' very own Elly De La Cruz!
In word, "wow!" The newest design is certainly a radical departure from most flagship designs over the years. Liberal use of neon makes the card image pop and certainly makes the entire card feel bright and cheery. The black-to-white border gradient looks fine but I imagine that the colored borders will follow the same gradient idea (typically, I prefer full colored borders for parallels but I'll wait and see how the 2024 design works with parallels)!
Another highlight from the design is that the neon borders are team color specific - something I love to see!
The large team logos are appreciated as well!
Overall, I think this is a solid design and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the actual cards in order to see how they look in person. For the moment, I'll say that this appears to be a top 10 flagship design in my eyes (speaking of which, I keep meaning to do a ranking of Topps flagship designs and this post made me remember that I have yet to actually write up that post)!
Happy 2024 everyone, baseball (and spring) will be here before we know it!

I'm not sure how I overly feel about the design, but I like the fact it does look pretty different than any recent design. A nice change.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great design! It's definitely a thumbs up for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure how to feel about it - as TripleLSupreme said, it is a great departure from past sets. My first reaction was "ew!" but after a closer look I think it's interesting and well-designed.
ReplyDeleteI want to see what the parallels look like
ReplyDeleteI kinda like it. Like GTT, I didn't like it at first... but by the time I scrolled down to Langeliers... my opinion started to change.
ReplyDeleteI like the design. I think it will look really good on Topps Chrome, but I think I'm sticking to the flagship for the set and just picking up individual stars from Chrome.
