Buying a Card Out of Pure Spite

Welcome Home, Elly!

A few days ago, I took at look at my progress on completing my various 2024 New Year's Resolutions.  One of those resolutions that I'm working on is to whittle down my want list a bit more - and the best way to do that is to either trade for what I am looking for or else hit up eBay.

Well, trading for any Elly De La Cruz card is virtually impossible right now so it was off to eBay to try and acquire one of the last 1989 Silver Pack Chrome cards that I need for this year's Series 1 set:

Yep, the Reds' newest wonderkid is now mine:  Elly, welcome home!

At this point in time, I've officially either traded for or ordered all of the remaining Series 1 Chrome cards that I need for my set build.  Once they are all in hand, I'll be able to officially delete that particular set from my want list.  Of course, I still have a long ways to go on Series 2 (including acquiring another Elly Chrome card) but I'll worry about that at a later date!

  1. Topps included Elly in both of their 1989 Silver Pack insert sets? I guess they catering to certain collectors who crave that.

    1. Yep, they love to double-dip on the rookies - especially guys that go for $$ on the secondary market. I guess Topps feels that they need to provide "value" to their cards? I don't know..I don't like it, especially in a set with rookies, current players, and retired stars - you could easily have 200 different players across the two series.
