Welcome back to my ongoing case break of 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter. Today, we are ripping box #9 (out of a total of 12 boxes).
The first card out of the box is the box topper and I'll fully admit that this one made me hungry:
I love me a good brisket sandwich - and that one looks pretty tasty (though the background "red cloud" below the sandwich kind of makes it look like the brisket is bleeding which wouldn't be so good).
Digging into the packs, the box produced a fair number of full-sized inserts of note including my first Gold Foil Filagree parallel:
The Andrew Abbott is numbered 45/50 and definitely looks better than the standard silver Filagree parallels though you can't really tell that from the scan. Pretty cool to pull a serially-numbered Reds card!
Moving on to the minis:
Overall, I like this year's mini sets for the most part but I'll admit that the World's Tallest Mountain cards are the least exciting of the batch. It's a fine idea but every card kind of looks the same...I mean, each card shows a picture of a tall mountain so what do you really expect?!
Finally, the three promised hits:
Another framed relic! For as nice as the framed Maddux relic is, I think my favorite hit of the box has to be the Usain Bolt relic with the bright yellow fabric. That's an awesome-looking card - perhaps my favorite standard relic of the entire case thus far!
That does it for box #9. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still quite happy with my case overall in terms of the fun it's given me. I'll forever quibble about the rising cost of Allen & Ginter but I cannot deny the overall appeal of this year's set! Still three more boxes to go in my case and then I'll have to make some tough decisions about what I am (and am not) going to try and collect out of this year's set. Obviously, I'll collect the base set and most of the mini inserts but after that, I'll have to do some soul searching to see what else I think I have a reasonable shot at completing within my budget!
Retail it is 6 cards for $3.49 (+tax) and 14 cards for $6.29 (+tax) - I picked up a bunch at Target - expensive but fun to open because you just don't know what you are going to get
