Board Game Friday: The Results of the April BGG Math Trade!

Another month down, another successful board game Math Trade to report on!  April's Math Trade ended up being the most productive trade for me in quite some time.  I ended up matching on two different trades, which meant that I could ship out two games I no longer had interest in playing and (hopefully) receive two new games that I'll enjoy in the future.

Giving:  Flash Point:  Fire Rescue

Flash Point is a cooperative game with a fire rescue theme.  I played the game a few times several years ago, and I'd say that the game is perfectly fine.  However, it's never been my choice of cooperative game to play (I own too many other cooperative games that offer me a richer experience).  I'd put Flash Point:  Fire Rescue in the category of "a good game, but not for me."  That makes it a perfect bit of trade fodder!

Giving:  Planted:  A Game of Nature & Nurture

Planted is a competitive game about raising a bunch of plants.  The game is essentially a simple set collection game with moderate drafting/resource management.  It's a super light game that is incredibly easy to teach; however, while it is undoubtedly fun to play a couple of times, the game didn't have any lasting effect on me.  The individual resource components were great, but the cards were printed on some of the thinnest, flimsiest card stock that I've seen in any professionally produced game in a long time.  Planted is another game that's perfect for board game trading, a lovely game to acquire, play a few times, and then move on from (and I imagine that's what the new owner of my copy of Planted will do down the line)!

With those two games out of my collection, it's now time to look at what I was able to replace them with moving forward.

Getting:  Dungeon Petz

Stupid spelling notwithstanding, Dungeon Petz is one of those games that I've wanted to try for quite some time.  The main gimmick of the game is that you are raising scary creatures to then sell to dungeon lords.  It's a goofy premise, to be sure, but it sounded like it could be fun.  It's also a game that I had assumed my six-year-old son could play (based entirely on the box art and theme).  However, a quick look at BGG says that the game is actually a lot heavier than I originally thought (it has a weight of 3.63, which is generally much heavier than I would have guessed).

Getting:  Lost Cities

Lost Cities is a 2-player card game with push-your-luck elements paired with an archeological theme.  It's a classic game by designer Reiner Knizia, and one that I've never had the opportunity to try.  I wouldn't say that I particularly needed another 2-player only game in my collection, however, this one is famous enough that I was happy to swing a trade for it.  It's also a popular family game, so I think my son and I will be able to give this one a go soon!

Overall, my BGG trading in April was a great success.  I have joined the May Math Trade as well, so hopefully I'll end up with something new to show off around this time next month!
