Barry Larkin
Year: 1996
Brand: Pacific Prism
Card number: P-16
It wouldn't be long before Pacific pumped Prism full of parallels, but in 1996, Prism was relatively tame in that it only had one parallel (Gold) to go along with the silver base cards. As you'd expect from the set name, the Prism base design contains plenty of sparkly foil. I do wish the player's name were a bit easier to read, but otherwise, it's a fun design. The card back isn't anything to write home about, but at least Pacific used a different photo than what was on the front of the card. I suppose it's hard to make a super informative card back when you have to have all text in two different languages (English and Spanish for Pacific).
Finally, for those that might be wondering, I am still searching for that Gold parallel of Barry's from the 1996 Prism set!

Wasn't too familiar with 1996 Pacific Prism, so I looked it up on Baseballcardpedia. Looks like these only one of these Prism base cards were inserted into each pack. The crazy thing is the size of the checklist. There are 144 cards in the set. The gold parallels? All 144 cards have a gold parallel that were inserted into 1:18 packs. Best of luck on tracking down a copy of that gold Larkin. I just made an offer on COMC for a Gwynn.
ReplyDeleteI am starting to appreciate a lot of the Pacific cards. They did some fun designs and interesting cards. A little underrated IMO. Great post! Also a Larkin collector.
ReplyDeleteoff topic, I was at the Burbank Card store today, and I saw this 2024 Topps Gilded Collection 73 Barry Larkin Superfractor 1/1 [PSA 10.] In a showcase and thought of you. I took a picture of it, and can send it to you if you are interested.
