TCDB Monday: The Final One for 2025!

It's the final Monday of 2025, and with that comes our final TCDB mailbag for the year!

We'll begin with a trade with TCDB user raineybt:

That's one of the 90 (!) different Topps Tek versions of Barry Larkin in the 1998 Tek set.  To be specific, this is pattern #63.  That's an insane number of cards from a single set to track down, and it's a set that I highly doubt I'll ever complete.  In fact, to date, I only own 25 Barry Larkin cards from the set.  No matter how crazy the set is, I won't turn down the opportunity to inch one card closer when I can, so a big thanks to raineybt for providing my collection a small push toward completion!

Next, from user horfin comes the final card that I needed for my 1997 Metal Universe set build, plus a new-to-me Barry Larkin card (my second new Barry Larkin card from 1998 this week)!

I decided to collect the 1998 Metal Universe set on a whim earlier this year, and now it is complete!  I kind of love the crazy, comic book aesthetic of the set (despite my never liking comic books as a kid)!  The biggest downside of the Metal Universe set is how poorly the cards scan; they really are quite cool to look at in person (I promise)!  As for the Larkin card, it's a 1998 Pacific Invincible checklist insert.  Pacific somehow managed to make checklist cards cool with a lot of their brands (and I respect the fact that they are fairly tough-to-pull inserts).  I think it's a pretty sweet card, and I'm glad to finally own my own copy!

Next up, we stick with older Barry Larkin cards one last time in 2025:

That's a 1996 Ultra Gold Medallion parallel, courtesy of TCDB user iowaCollector.  How I have gone this long collecting Barry Larkin cards and not owning this particular overproduced card is beyond me!  However, it's all mine now!

Finally, we end the year with a PWE from user bdhrbob:

I am hoping to complete the various 2025 Allen & Ginter mini insert sets, so expect to see more trades like this in the near future (if all goes well). I was able to nab a few minis here that I needed - every step forward is a positive one for a set collector!  Of the five, I think my favorite card is the Manta Ray, just a neat-looking card.

That does it for 2025 TCDB trading!  Here's to 2026 and even more cardboard swapping.
