TCDB Monday: It's Good to be Back!

Now that the 2026 edition of Topps Allen & Ginter is out in the wild and people are starting to rip packs, I'm diving headfirst into trying to trade for what I'm still missing (which is a lot)!  Luckily, there are still quite a few folks on TCDB who like to trade Ginter cards, so let's get right to last week's worth of mailbag deliveries!

First up, from user KC Card Collecting comes a pair of needed mini cards:

I like the look (and theme) of the Musical Methods cards, but unfortunately, Topps didn't include any information on the backside of the cards.  Honestly, it feels like the designers ran out of time halfway through the project, and so they totally phoned it in on the reverse side of the cards.  Like a lot of decisions made with 2026 A&G, it's disappointing.

Next up, from user Mosh Man comes a nice batch of 2026 A&G cards:

It's a rare trade where I can land cards of Ohtani, De La Cruz, Judge, and multiple A&G mini inserts!  I do like the N43 cards, but I'm still sad that Topps moved away from the box topper model and instead made them regular "common" inserts.  Much like with the Musical Method minis from above, it feels like Topps put in the bare minimum effort this year with Ginter.  I don't think I've ever had such a lack of enthusiasm for the brand as I do right now, and that's a true shame since, historically, A&G has been my favorite set since I got back into collecting cards twenty years ago!

Sticking with a familiar theme, my next trade was with user Auntie, and yes, it was another envelope full of 2026 A&G cards:

More minis.  I scanned the back of one of the Musical Methods minis so that you could see for yourself just exactly how little effort Topps put into the design.  I will give Topps a tiny bit of credit on the other non-baseball mini set:  the 50 Ways to Say Hello set does feature a rotating globe depending on where the language of the card is spoken.

Next up, frequent trade partner bdhrbob and I hooked up for another A&G-heavy trade!

More of the usual suspects.  It's amazing how many of the full-sized inserts that I needed - I wasn't able to buy nearly the amount of boxes that I typically do (box prices at release were up over $200, which is insane for what little you get in most boxes).  I have no interest in A&G becoming a "hit chase" type of set, and this year it certainly felt like Topps was trying to price boxes as if it were such a set.  Then again, Topps also removed a hit from hobby boxes, so who knows?  Maybe the simplest explanation is the correct one:  Greed.

Next, from user jc645 comes a bit of proof that I'm still attempting to collect stuff besides Allen & Ginter!

This particular trade netted me a bunch of base cards from the 1998 Skybox Dugout Access set.  This isn't a set that I'm attempting to collect in full, so you'd be forgiven for wondering why I wanted the above cards.  The answer?  You need to flip 'em over!

Yep, all of the Little Dawgs cards in the subset feature Barry Larkin on the back of the card.  I enjoy grabbing Larkin "cameo" cards when I can, and these are rather easy pickings now that I know about them!

Speaking of Larkin, jc645 also sent me a couple of "actual" Barry Larkin cards, including a relic from 2026 Topps and a pink parallel from the 2025 Panini Prizm set.

I enjoy grabbing the various Panini Prizm parallels when I can.  The 2025 set has a ton that I'm still looking for, as you can see from this screengrab of my TCDB want list:

Yeah, I'll probably never complete that set, but hey, at least I'm now one card closer!  The Topps Larkin relic card is also much appreciated - it's not often I get Larkin relics in the mail these days.

Finally, we return to more A&G cards for my final trade of the week (this one courtesy of user AnalogKid):

Yep, more minis for my set builds!  With all of the above trades now safely tucked into my set binder, I can report that I'm still missing 31/50 of the 50 Ways to Say Hello minis and 33/50 N34 mini baseball subjects.  In other words, I'm going to need several more weeks with just as many trades if I am to ever complete either set!

  1. You don't mess around. Over halfway on the 50 Ways to Say Hello set build is awesome. I'm gonna track down the Aloha card at some point. I might seek out a few of the Musical Methods minis as well... even if the backs kinda suck.
