2008 Topps Stadium Club Retail Box Break

I'm doing my job to help the economy - another visit to Wal*Mart, another box of cards to add to my collection! This time, I picked up a box of 2008 Topps Stadium Club.

What I got:
40 cards (out of 150)
23 regular base cards (3 of which had the "First Day Issue" stamp)
1 Retired player card
15 Rookie cards (5 of which had the "First Day Issue" stamp)
1 inexplicably numbered card (140 / 999)

This isn't the first of the Stadium Club set I've bought this year (see my pack review here). I was quite happy with my box (though I would have loved to get a signature...I have no luck for that type of thing)... Anyhow, I got a few packs with some interesting results.

First, the base cards. I love the pictures (for the most part). I don't even like Jeter, but I really like this photo:

It looks like Jeter ran out of oxygen and had to slide while inhaling some fresh ballpark air, but still - look at the dust up.

I also got a pair of Cincinnati Reds rookies (Joey Votto and Johnny Cueto) and a third Red, Mr. Edison Volquez. The other photos were nice, but how often do you get a picture of a pitcher choking himself with his own gold chain while he throws a fastball by someone?

I pulled a single retired player card - but I was lucky because I pulled the second player that I wanted, Roberto Clemente. The card is absolutely gorgeous, I love the 21 on the end of the bat.

And last, I pulled another serially-numbered card. This time it was number 140/999 and was of Anaheim Angel Nick Adenhart...

What's that you say? I pulled a Nick Adenhart serially-numbered card out of my last bunch of packs?! Why yes, you are correct... I've never heard of Adenhart, but now I have to hope he becomes a superstar... If you have any serially-numbered Stadium Club Adenharts you don't mind parting with (and let's be honest, who wouldn't mind parting with them?), I wouldn't mind having them. Maybe I can get all 999.

  1. I didn't listen to anything you wrote after I saw that Clemente card. Fantastic.

Well, it's your lucky day, that Nick kid was killed in a car accident. That should increase the value of those cards, huh?

  4. To bad he is dead now. Although for a time you might get a good price for them.
