My Barry Larkin Collection 01: 1987 Topps

Other people have talked about their particular favorite player (and their corresponding baseball card player collections). I thought that I would share my player collection as well. For someone who started watching Cincinnati Reds baseball in the late 80s, Barry Larkin epitomized Cincinnati baseball. Larkin was a key contributor to the Reds 1990 World Series - and was one of the few stars of the 90s that the Reds had. I have begun to (slowly) scan the front and back of every single Barry Larkin card I own...and will eventually post them all on my blog.

Of course, there's no better place to start than the Topps rookie card!

Year: 1987
Brand: Topps
Card #: 648
Rookie Card

I like that Larkin's rookie card is in the 1987 Topps set - one of my favorite set designs. The card features a decent shot of Larkin on the front and Larkin's minor league stats in the back. The wood border is iconic, and I like that both the team and the player name are easy to see. This is the way a rookie card ought to be (without that annoyingly large "rookie card" logo that card companies slap on rookies now).

Quick aside: I'm always looking for new Barry Larkin cards - if you have any for trade let me know!

  1. I've always loved Barry Larkin. As a Michigan man, he has always held a special place in my heart. I also think this card is among the best from that 1987 set. It is just a fantastic looking rookie card.

  2. I agree with you - this is definitely one of my favorite cards (regardless of player). It's an extra bonus that it's of Larkin AND his rookie card!

  3. Dang, man. I shipped off about 300 Larkin doubles a month ago to the guys at omgreds.com. I will see what others I have and send them to you. Eventually.
