Delivery Time! 1991 Topps for me!

A couple of weeks ago, blog reader Johnny contacted me about a potential trade. He said he had a bunch of 1991 Topps off my list that he'd send for anything that I could help him out with. Well, I mailed off a few 1990 Topps, a few 2009 Topps, and all my remaining American Heritage duplicates.

In return, Johnny sent me a box full of 1991 Topps from my want list, over 100 in total!

Here's are some of my favorites...

1991 Topps:

Nolan Ryan (#1) and Rey Palacios (#148)

Any set that has card number 1 being Nolan Ryan is starting off right! I particularly like the Palacios card. I've never heard of him, but that's a catcher doing a flying leg kick while hugging the base... I don't know about you, but I think Rey might be trying to spike a shortstop covering the bag in retaliation for a foul ball off the body last half inning.

Tom O'Malley (#257) and Ryne Sandberg (#398)

What do these two players have in common? Both are special players to me... Sandberg plays for the (moderately disliked) Cubs - but the Cubs were my grandfather's favorite team so Sandberg has always been a player that I've liked. O'Malley, on the other hand, is probably someone that most people haven't heard of. He gets a mention here because he is actually from Montoursville, PA which is just a bit down the road from me.

Milt Thompson (#63) and Tom Glavine (#82)

The Thompson card is a beautiful display of baseball photography. The Glavine card is more typical in terms of photography, but Glavine deserves his 1991 Topps card displayed!

Doug Dascenzo (#437) and Mark Gubicza (#265)

Two more beautiful photos. It makes you wonder...if Topps could get great photos like that in 1991, there's no reason why ANY set today has subpar photography.

Carl Everett (#113) and Glen Braggs (#444)
I love getting Reds cards in trades - and I love it even more when I need the Reds cards for sets I'm working on! The Braggs card fits both of those requirements. Everett, on the other hand, is only here as a word of caution... That #1 Draft Pick logo at the top of card sure looks intimidating...here's hoping he pans out.... (and yes, that's sarcasm - and the exact reason why I don't think I'll ever be a prospector).
