Phlogging: Little League World Series Parade

Phlogging: aka Photo Blogging.

Welcome to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, home of the Little League Baseball World Series - and tonight, the Grand Slam Parade.

Tons of people lined the city street, including large groups representing the different teams. Seen here, the team from Peabody, Massachusetts.

Most groups had matching, pre-made t-shirts loudly proclaiming their allegience to a given team.
The parade began at 6:00 PM...and by 8:30 PM it was still going on (but I left to get some dinner)...

That's the Jim Rice. Notice the entire New England fan club going crazy for Jim Rice - lots of Boston fans there folks.

Jim Rice. He seeemed to truly enjoy being the Grand Marshall. He was signing balls for the kids and stopped so the New England folks could get lots of pictures. I was impressed with him.

Dugout, the Little League mascot, even got into the act by dressing dapper.

The volunteer umpires were the first of the Little League "crew" to go by. Little League does a nice job of recognizing the work of all the volunteers, and the umpires were no exception.

What's a parade without a horse?

One of the "floats."

The New England team...

The Latin America team...

The Midwest kids...

The Japanese team. The team from Japan clearly won the "most excited to be here" award out of all the teams. The were smiling, laughing, taking photos, and video taping the crowd as much as the crowd was photographing them. Even the coaches were into it, one had a camera and the other was capturing all the moments in video form.

More of the Japanese team, the enthusiasm was contagious.

More photos of the teams.

The Saudi Arabian team, another team with a large contingent of fans in my vicinity.

Overall, Williamsport put on a nice parade. Over two hours long, with all the teams plus lots of local businesses, bands, politicians, and plenty of others kept the interest levels high. Now it's on to the actual games tomorrow!
