Group Break & Leaderboard: 1999 Collector's Choice - Pack 02

1999 UD Collector's Choice:
Pack 02:

It's time to mix it up a bit and move back to the 1999 Collector's Choice box for a few packs.  Remember, there's still the UD Classics box that will be ripped, along with a few loose packs of random sets.  The 1999 UD Choice set feels a bit more "polished," but I don't know if that's a good thing since it was designed for the younger demographic...it almost ruins some of the whimsy charm!

1.  Gabe Kapler (Tigers)
27.  J.D. Drew (Cardinals)

35.  Greg Maddux (Braves)
45.  Sammy Sosa (Cubs)

The "Cover Glory" of the late 90s has turned into a "Steriod Glory" in hindsight.  Of course, all baseball fans were delusional...probably because most fans wanted to see the sport regain its popularity - and chicks dig the long ball!
71.  Mike Caruso (White Sox)
78.  Travis Fryman (Indians)
82.  Larry Walker (Rockies)
115. Derek Jeter (Yankees)

I'm not a Jeter fan, but this is a nice, clean card.  In fact, it's almost logo-free - which means that maybe Upper Deck should have used this photo again in their 2010 set instead of the logo filled photos!
133.  Wally Joyner (Padres)
137.  Tony Gwynn (Padres)
153.  Jose Cruz Jr.  (Blue Jays)
SQ13.  Roger Clemens - * StarQuest (Blue Jays)
Junk card:  Ken Griffey Jr.  (Mariners, as per Dan's request he'll get a bunch of these).

Card Breakdown Leaderboard

Arizona Diamondbacks/Los Angeles Dodgers - BA Benny  - 4 base / 0 inserts
Atlanta Braves - Flywheels  - 8 base / 2 insert
Baltimore Orioles - RyanMemorabilia  5 base / 1 inserts
Boston Red Sox - Cardsplitter  3 base / 0 inserts
Chicago Cubs - D. Cottilo  7 base / 1 inserts
Cleveland Indians - Baseball Dad  9 base / 0 inserts
Detroit Tigers - Grand Cards  7 base / 0 inserts
New York Mets - The Brooklyn Met 0 base / 1 insert
New York Yankees - NMCLax24  4 base / 1 insert
Philadelphia Phillies - Deal  4 base / 1 inserts
Pittsburgh Pirates - NY Hitman 23 2 base / 2 inserts
St. Louis Cardinals - Ike's Cards  6 base / 0 inserts
San Francisco Giants - dfwbuck2 5 base / 0 inserts
Seattle Mariners - Dan 5 base / 0 inserts

The big winners so far - the Indians have 9 base cards and the Braves and Pirates (of all teams!?!) are tied with 2 inserts each.  The Mets have only one card so far, but it's been the best "pull" up to this point so that helps even things out a bit.  Plenty more packs to come - I've only ripped eleven so far!

  2. Funny how the 1st Mets card you pulled is of the player I first collected (Rey Ordonez). Who knew such an "obscure" player in the 2000's would go on to have so many freakin' cards to collect?!
