2003 Topps Bazooka - Pack 01

It's day one of the group break - and it is time to bust open the third box of cards!  Up next:  2003 Topps Bazooka.  This is a hobby box that contains 24 packs (8 cards per pack).

According to the pack wrapper, we can expect to find the following:
Bazooka Comics (1:4 packs)
Bazooka Stand-Ups (1:8 packs)
Bazooka 4-on-1 Stickers (1:4 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group A (1:1,666 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group B (1:306 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group C (1:197 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group D (1:95 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group E (1:52 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group F (1:76 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group G (1:326 packs)
Bazooka Blast Relic - Group H (1:48 packs)
Sequentially numbered Bazooka Blasts Parallel Relic (1:524 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group A (1:1,666 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group B (1:611 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group C (1:226 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group D (1:118 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group E (1:36 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group F (1:73 packs)
Piece of Americana Relic - Group G (1:190 packs)
Sequentially numbered Piece of Americana Parallel Relic (1:611)

Phew!  That's a lot of relics - but since the box primises three game-used relics in each box, I guess it makes sense!

On to the first pack...but before we get there, the box has a special bonus:
This card can be made into a stand-up card by folding along the ridge in the middle.  I'll let

A punch out card of Barry Bonds, punch out card #1 of 4.  This card was punched out of the front box lid and will be going into the Giants pile as their first "insert."

Pack 01:
88.  Roberto Alomar - Mets
90.  Pedro Martinez - Red Sox
107.  Joe Kennedy - Rays
117.  Jose Reyes - Mets
124.  John Smoltz - Braves

92.  Marlon Byrd - Silver "chunk" card - Phillies
I think Byrd kind of looks like a pitcher in this card but that's alright.

19.  Hee Seop Choi - Mini Throwback card - Cubs
The mini cards are only a bit smaller than the regular base cards...but they are printed on a dark cardboard stock, much like '80s Topps cards!

4 of 24.  Barry Zito - Bazooka Comic - Athletics
I can't fault Topps for adding in the comic cards - comics are a staple of the Bazooka gum brand!

A piece of seven year old gum
I like that it is square.  I am scared that this gum is still soft seven years later when the gum in Topps Heritage is brittle and cracks within days of purchase when new!

Judging by the contents of the first pack, I would say it is safe to assume that the silver "chunk" cards are one per pack (unless the pack has a relic in it) and that the mini cards are also one per pack.  I guess each of those technically qualify as insert cards...so that makes it at least two inserts per Bazooka pack!

  1. Interesting that the Reyes is the only card with an "auto" in that pack.
