Group Break Results: California Pride (Padres and Athletics)

A number of people asked me to update the group scoreboard - seeing how there was such interest, I've decided to do one better:  I'm going to show off the best card, worst card, plus any interesting cards (in my eyes at least) of all the group break slots, one at a time.

California Pride (Padres and Athletics)
Claimed by Smedcards

Best card(s):

Probably the blue parallel mini card of Ryan Klesko (#135) from the Cracker Jack box.  I'm always a sucker for mini cards - and the parallels are often even nicer than the originals!  In terms of difficult pulls, the Toast of the Town - Tony Gwynn card from Collector's Choice is the best card since it was a box "hit."  Unfortunately, the top of the card has slight damage which keeps it from being the sole "best card" from the California Pride slot.

Worst card(s):

1997 Collector's Choice, #476 - Derrek Lee Rookie Class card.  This is the worst card for the two teams only because of what could have been for Padre fans - imagine if they had kept Lee and had his potent bat in the lineup along with all their great pitching over the last decade or so...

Card(s) of interest:

Both the A's and Padres had some neat cards (I'm especially partial to the Gwynn Fleer EX card), but I chose the 1997 Collector's Choice #411 as the card of interest based on it's great photo!  The flying helmet, jumping outfielder, and general chaos make this card an instant classic in my book.

Final Tally (after all non-insert duplicates removed):
Base:  49
Inserts/Short Prints/Parallels:  13
Relics/Autos:  0

    But you know, the Padres needed Kevin Brown. Had to have him.
