Group Break Results: "The Floridians" (Marlins and Rays)

A number of people asked me to update the group scoreboard - seeing how there was such interest, I've decided to do one better:  I'm going to show off the best card, worst card, plus any interesting cards (in my eyes at least) of all the group break slots, one at a time.

First up:

The Floridians (Marlins and Rays)
Claimed by Smedcards

Best card(s):

In my eyes, the best card of the Marlins was the Cracker Jack card (#90) of Dontrelle Willis.  I love the horizontal shot - and the large font on either side of Willis simply works wonders for the overall simplistic appeal of the Cracker Jack design.  This card is actually one of my favorites from the entire Cracker Jack box!  Probably the best card in terms of value/rarity was the Carl Crawford Cracker Jack mini card.

Worst card(s):

For the Marlins, the worst card is an easy choice - the 2000 Fleer EX (#52) card of Preston Wilson.  The EX box produced mostly awesome cards - but a few of the cards had awful peeling...and the Wilson card is one of the worst in that regard.  You can't easily tell from the scan, but the peeling occurs at both the top and bottom of the card - perhaps placing it underneath a heavy book or something for a while would solve the problem...but I sort of doubt it!

Card(s) of interest:

Honestly, the Marlins were a bit of a lackluster team - but they did have a few interesting cards.  Probably the most notable to me is card #218 from Cracker Jack of then-manager Jack McKeon.  There are only a few non-baseball player cards in the Cracker Jack set - couple that with McKeon in a suit - and you end up with a card that definitely sticks out!  As for the Rays, despite not having any representation in the 1997 Collector's Choice set (since they weren't around at that point in time), they ended up with a decent sized stack thanks to ten different Pacific Rays cards!  The Rays also ended up with a pair of EX cards (in good condition).  As a combined team slot, I'd say the Floridians did alright - certainly not the best, but definitely not the worst either...as you'll see in a bit!

Final Tally (after all non-insert duplicates removed):
Base:  42
Inserts/Short Prints/Parallels:  4
Relics/Autos:  0
