Group Break Preview: 2001 Topps High Definition (HD)

It's time for another preview pack of my upcoming group break - this will be the last of the previews before I close the group break - I wanted to show off another set that many people probably haven't seen before (and definitely should)!  Remember, if you want to sign up - check out the main sign up page here!

The 2001 Topps High Definition, or Topps HD for short, set features 4 premium cards per pack...and a nice smattering of possible inserts.  The card stock used for the set is really, really thick - about the thickness of your typical Allen & Ginter relic card!  These cards simply feel like high quality artifacts...and the design complements the card stock, the entire set seems quite nice!

In the set, we are looking for the following inserts:
Superstars of the Game:  1:6
Sequentially numbered Chrome Parallel 1:18
20-20 1:12
20-20 parallel 1:36
The Game Defined 1:24
The Game Defined parallel 1:72
Images of Excellence 1:8
Images of Excellence parallel 1:24
Clear Relics 1:108
Autographs 1:431

Let's crack the first pack:

2001 Topps HD
Pack 01

29.  Troy Glaus - Angels
The front of the cards feature the player name on the right hand side along with the team logo in a semi-transparent colored box.  It's a simple design that really allows the photo to be the primary focus of the card (which makes sense for a set called High Definition).
52.  Jose Vidro - Expos
The backs of the cards are quite informative - there is a different photo of the player in the top half and the bottom half includes a paragraph of text plus complete Major League statistics for the player.  All of the player vitals are along the right hand side.
61.  Dominick Rich - Blue Jays
I apologize for the slant - the card slid on my scanner bed and I was too lazy to rescan it.  The rookie cards in Topps HD stand out from the regular base cards thanks to the non-intrusive "rookie card" notation at the top of the card.  The backs of the rookie cards look like the backs of the base cards - only the player's minor league stats are shown instead.
69.  Jim Edmonds - Cardinals

And with that, two of the packs of the group break have now been busted.  The group break begins in earnest on Monday - all payments must be made before then...  Remember, if all the slots are taken, I'll throw in a fifth box (2000 Fleer Focus)!

I got some in a Target Value Pack once. Those cards could hurt you - I never thought baseball cards could be a weapon until I saw those!

  2. Yeah, they are some seriously thick cards - very solid! The design is nice though, I'm looking forward to busting the box!
