Where's He Going to Go, Cincinnati?

ESPN is reporting that someone with "ties to both the team and player" recently made the following statement regarding New York Yankee legend Derek Jeter and the recent contract stalemate:

"Tell him the deal is three years at $15 million a year, take it or leave it," the person taking the hard-line approach said. "Wait him out and he'll wind up taking it. Where's he gonna go, Cincinnati?"

Sheesh.  Apparently Cincinnati is the new Siberia to Yankee brass.  I guess the Yankees didn't get the memo that quality baseball is played in Cincinnati (at least this year)...though I don't have any desire to see Jeter with a Cincinnati cap on, the photoshopped image on this Yahoo post is so bad it's great (and yes, I know it's a quick mock-up, I'm not mocking the mock-upper at all)!

In other news, there was a former star who DID go to Cincinnati today - Dontrelle Willis has apparently agreed to a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds.  Unfortunately, he still can't pitch well (or play left field).  While I jest (sort of), this is a fairly solid move for the Reds.  IF the D-train can somehow get back on track, the Reds will have a nice left-handed arm out of the bullpen and possible trade bait later in the season.  IF the D-train instead remains derailed, the Reds essentially lose nothing in the grand scheme of things.

A hat tip to Redleg Nation for first alerting me to the Dontrelle signing.

  1. The Yankees and their fans consider everything outside of the Bronx Siberia.

    No respect.

  2. Wow. That mock up looks so strange. I just can't see him anywhere but with the yanks.
