Barry Larkin
Year: 2002
Brand: Topps Total
Card number: 679 (or CIN11 if collecting by team)
You know you've got a large set on your hands when Larkin is numbered 679! Topps did add a small nice touch by making Larkin #11 within the Reds set - the same as his uniform number. Unlike many other people, I never really fell in love with the whole Topps Total thing...which is a bit weird considering how much I love to collect sets... Even so, I do appreciate each and every Larkin card in my collection!
For this particular card, the front is quite plain - though it is a nice photo of Larkin running to third while pretending his Jordan with his tongue stuck out. I think the Topps Total logo could have been changed places with the Reds logo - no one needs the card set logo three times the size of the team logo!
The back of the card is a rather confusing mess. There's the "regular" card number in the middle of the top, while the bottom right corner features the "team" number. I also don't appreciate the snarkiness of the Topps copy writers, specifically "slowed by assorted injuries...Larkin remains a clubhouse leader and the last link to the Reds' 1990 World Championship team." I also don't particularly like the fact that there is two small written blurbs separated by a small box of season statistics.
