Group Break: 2000 Topps Stadium Club - Pack 15

I'd like to say this is a great pack out of the Stadium Club box...unfortunately, I can't (or at least, I can't without worrying about my pants catching on fire).  This pack flat out sucks.  But you know what, you made it this far, you might as well see the detritus for yourself.  And yeah, I just busted out the word detritus on a baseball card blog.  Maybe this pack doesn't suck afterall since it allowed me to go all SAT on you.

Pack 15

6.  Alex Gonzalez - Marlins

A flop for the Reds - Marlins manager John Boles was quoted as saying Gonzalez will "be an All-Star for many years."  Perhaps Boles meant Gonzalez would be ab All-Star for exactly one year, 1999...the year before the card was made.  In other words, Boles couldn't have been much more wrong if he had suggested Gonzalez would cure cancer, reunite the Koreas, and drive a hybrid Hummer in between ground balls.
17.  Quilvio Veras - Padres
According to the back of the card, Quilvio "supplemented his career highs in AVG (.280) and runs scored (95) with 30 stolen bases.  Maybe Quilvio should've played with Canseco to get supplements that would actually work.
47.  Vinny Castilla - Rockies

Ok, Vinny was a decent player - I don't have anything overly negative to say here.  Moving on.
67.  Warren Morris - Pirates
Kudos to the Stadium Club writing staff for coming up with gems like this that make Morris sound like the second coming of the Savior.  This is verbatim from the card back:  "The acquisition of Morris in 1998 paid unprecedented dividends in 1999.  He was the Major Leagues' first second baseman this century to hit .285 with at least 10 HRs."  Holy flying f*ck, Pirate management was genius picking up such a great guy like Morris!  Morris along with Todd Van Poppel were acquired by Pittsburgh for some guy named Esteban Loaiza...you know, the guy who won 126 Major League games and finished second in the 2003 Cy Young voting behind some guy named Halladay.  Great move Pirates.
88.  Neifi Perez - Rockies
Neifi's card is beat up out of the pack...so much so that I won't make any more fun of Neifi.
143.  Chris Singleton - White Sox
Did you know Singleton signed as a free agent with the Pirates in January of 2004 and had his contract voided by the Pirates in March 2004.  In January 2005, he was a free-agent signing of the Devil Rays who promptly released him on our Nation's birthday?  Ouch.

  1. When I lived in Florida, they used to call him Vinny CashStealer, because he phoned it in for the last few years he was down there.

    Enjoying the breaks.
