We hit it BIG (at least in terms of pull difficulty/rarity) in one of these packs - and yet, it's a bit of a disappointment as you'll see in a moment...
2000 Topps Stars
Packs 20 and 21
10. Rafael Palmeiro - Rangers
11. Nomar Garciaparra - Red Sox
30. Derek Jeter - Yankees
31. Larry Walker - Rockies
47. Chipper Jones - Braves
72. Cal Ripken - Orioles
86. Tom Glavine - Braves
104. Willie Stargell - Pirates
124. Ruben Mateo - Rangers
133. Nick Johnson - Yankees
147. Josh Kalinowski - Rockies
GGJ2. Brad Penny - Game Gear (Jersey?) - Redemption... - Marlins
On the bright side, this is an awesome pull - and an extremely difficult one at that! I'm guessing it is for a jersey card since it has a "j" in the numbering scheme, therefore, it is seeded 1:382 packs...or less than one per case! Unfortunately, the product is a 2000 set...which means we missed the redemption deadline by about a decade. I'll still put the card in the Marlins pile (that's who Penny played for at the time). If I were PhaLe28 (the person who claimed the Marlins), I'd probably send the card in to Topps with a letter asking for anything in return - perhaps a well-worded, kind request will make Topps send some sort of worthy replacement. Or perhaps not, but only one way to find out!

OMG...that is sick! i never thought about sending it into Topps to request anything in return. that makes me think...I recently pulled a redemption card that just expired on October 31, 2010. maybe i should try that one first and if i have success with that, i will try this one.
ReplyDeleteTo write a letter 'begging' Topps is going to be hard, I have dealt with their Consumer Relations' team a few times already these past 2 months...i think i may be 'blacklisted' for any kindness.
we will see...
