Diamond Giveaway - My 8 Codes

I had been sitting on a pile of code cards for quite awhile...part of me thought I might as well sell them on eBay (because I figured I'd get nothing but '87 Topps cards with them anyhow) but the other part of me wanted to see what all the fuss was about this time around.  Obviously, the curious side of me won.

So, I headed over to www.diamondtopps.com and entered my 8 codes.  I ended up "winning" the following cards:

1996 Vinny Castilla
1995 Todd Hundley
1994 Chris Hammond
1994 Cris Carpenter
1987 Mike LaCoss
1978 Jeff Newman
1975 Frank White
1975 Oscar Zamora

It wasn't the worst possible group of cards I could have gotten, but it's close to the worst.  Seriously, four of the eight were from the 90s, the fifth was one of the dreaded 1987 cards, and the last three were from the 70s.  When Castilla is best player out of eight cards spanning all of Topps' history, you know you got hosed.  I guess I should have sold the codes eBay huh?

Wait, what's that - there's more that the codes do?  That's right, this year's version offers you the chance to win crappy 1987 Topps cards and then dig in virtual dirt to "win" rings that can be traded (eventually).  Well, it's probably no surprise to you that my eight digs resulted in nothing more than one "free" dig...

My rings were of:
Cincinnati Reds
Los Angeles Dodgers
Houston Colt 45s
Kansas City Athletics
Louisville Colonels
Washington Senators
Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig

Of course, since all I got were rings, I reached the five ring plateau and "won" another free card and ring.  Surely this would be a better prize right?

Well, the card certainly sucks.  A 2007 card, great.  That means of the nine cards I "won", six of them were from 1987 or newer.  Yuck.

At least I have one dig left, maybe I'll get one of those diamond cards and this will be worthwhile...

Or not.

Well, obviously I'm not entirely sold on the whole Diamond Giveaway thing.  I'd gladly try redeeming more codes if I had them (the allure of something cool gets me every time), but it's a bit disappointing to not even win a single card that I'd considering paying shipping for and having sent to me.  I guess once the trading feature is up and running I'll see what I can turn my nine crappy cards into.

  2. I don't know whether or not to sell them because people are paying $2-3 for them.
