Barry Larkin Collection 103: 2001 Post Cereal - #13

Barry Larkin
Year:  2001
Brand:  Post Cereal (Topps)
Card number:  13 of 18

In 2001, Post Cereal issued two sets of baseball cards.  The first was an eight card set featuring the members of the 500 Home Run Club.  The second set was an 18 card set featuring modern players (including the Larkin card above).   Besides Larkin, the 2001 Post Cereal set checklist is full of both legitimate superstars and a bunch of "barely" stars.  Here is the full set checklist:

As you can see, Larkin is joined by great players like Tony Gwynn and Pedro Martinez and lesser players like Brad Radke and Moises Alou.  As for the Larkin card itself, it's a great card for an "oddball" set.  There is full use of team names and logos - the front of the card even features an off set team logo (probably as an effort to highlight the use of the license)!  Compare this Larkin card to earlier Post Cereal cards and you can see the difference in quality!

The back of the card is also nice - once again, even better considering that you could pull this card in a box of cereal!  The full career stats is a nice touch - and as you can see by my table above, I don't mind the alternating colors for each line of data.  All told, this is probably one of the nicest oddball* Larkin cards in my collection!

*It should be noted that Topps is the company that actually produced the card - and thus, it's hardly fair to name this my best "odd ball" since it was designed and manufactured by a leading card company.
