Group Break #6: Another Hit from Topps Reserve!

The Topps Reserve box promised three relics plus one autographed mini helmet.  At this point, we've already found two relics, plus the helmet of course.  As of packs 7 & 8, we found our third promised relic!  Who is it?  You'll have to read on...

2002 Topps Reserve:
Packs 7 & 8:

41.  Pedro Martinez - Red Sox
45.  Orlando Hudson - Blue Jays
48.  Brad Penny - Marlins
55.  Shawn Green - Dodgers

56.  Ivan Rodriguez - Rangers
66.  Andruw Jones - Braves
122.  Paul Lo Duca - Dodgers
125.  Alfonso Soriano - Yankees

133.  Johnny Damon - Red Sox
TRJ-DE.  Relic:  Darin Erstad - Angels

This card is an excellent example of why I think I might stick with my current group break format.  The Angels are typically a team that goes unclaimed, but thanks to the randomization of the remaining 15 teams amongst all group break participants, one lucky person ended up with a relic that otherwise would have just sat on my shelf for eternity!  In this case, Jason is the lucky winner since he claimed the Indians and then was assigned the Angels as his second team.  As for the relic itself, it's pretty nice if you ask me!  The pin stripe makes an otherwise boring swatch look nice, plus it's a fairly generous size which I appreciate!

  1. Very nice. Now I just need to make friends with an Angels collector, or else it'll end up sitting on MY shelf for eternity! Seriously though, I'm enjoying the break. This has been a nice selection of boxes, and I like the posting format.
