Group Break #6: Three Packs of Topps Gallery

After the excitement of the last pack where we pulled a relic with odds over 1 in every 500 packs, we were probably due for a few "dud" packs.  The next three packs of Gallery are complete duds in terms of inserts or other rare cards.  They do, however, provide a bunch of teams with some really nice base cards - and every break needs a decent stack of base cards!

2000 Topps Gallery:
Packs 10, 11, & 12:

3.  Jay Bell - Diamondbacks
5.  Bernie Williams - Yankees

19.  Brian Giles - Pirates
32.  Fernando Tatis - Cardinals
38.  Orlando Hernandez - Yankees
43.  Kevin Brown - Dodgers

The Dodgers have a total of seven base cards plus one insert/parallel thus far.  Given my historical luck at pulling Dodger cards, it's a major upset thus far that the Dodgers have so few cards compared to teams like the Athletics (13 base cards) or Braves (12 base cards).
49.  Edgardo Alfonzo - Mets
54.  Troy Glaus - Angels
56.  Mike Mussina - Orioles
68.  Robin Ventura - Mets

The backs of the Gallery cards are fairly nice.  I don't find a lot of value in the monthly breakdowns, but I guess it's a nice change of pace from the regular Topps set where you get the career statistics.  I do like the secondary photo plus the Gallery Notes section on each card.  The "pictured on front" bit at the bottom is a cheesy nod to the theme of the set I guess, but it works ok.
69.  Ray Durham - White Sox
72.  Javy Lopez - Braves
81.  Eric Karros - Dodgers
90.  Andruw Jones - Braves
100.  Alex Rodriguez - Mariners
114.  Manny Ramirez - Indians

115.  Ivan Rodriguez - Rangers
140.  Ben Christensen - Cubs

At this point in the break, every team has at least five cards except for the Rockies, Tigers, Royals, Brewers, Twins, Giants, and Nationals/Expos.  We've also found three relics and one serially numbered card, all of which went to different teams.  Although the three Gallery packs didn't provide us with any inserts or parallel cards, we have pulled 26 that are in the team piles plus another four that need to be randomed off since they feature multiple teams.  I'm hopeful that everyone is enjoying the break - remember each slot was for two teams so only the Rockies/Brewers and Tigers/Twins slots are truly underperforming at the moment.  There's still quite a few packs (plus the mini autographed helmet and a box of mini cards) to go - so hang in there!
