2011 Topps Lineage Case Review: Box #6

It's time for a look at the next box in the case of Topps Lineage.  At this point, it appears that Lineage box (and case) prices have gone down quite a bit, but I don't exactly get why.  There are on card autos, there are autographs of retired players (albeit not many true "stars"), and there are a bunch of really nice relics.  Oh yeah, there are also a lot of other cool inserts that (mostly) seem to be popular.

Collectors are fickle people.

2011 Topps Lineage
Case - Box #6:

Every box contains a box topper (some are relics, most are not).

This particular box topper is not a relic - but it is for trade should any Rockie collector stumble upon this blog (*ahem* hiflew).  I think Tulowitzki looks like he could be playing for a Little League team in this photo!

There was, of course, a big pile of base cards.  Speaking of which, I have a full base set of Lineage available for trade should anyone wish to do so.  But, enough of the base cards, let's take a look at some of the other inserts.

I finally figured out what I am going to collect from Lineage, at least in terms of the parallels.  I hope to acquire one of each of the Reds in the three different (easy to find) parallel sets - Diamonds, Platinums, and '75 Minis.  All non-Reds are for trade (and happily for me, I did get one Red).

You also may have noticed that I only pulled five diamond parallels (instead of the six that you should get).  It turned out that I ended up with an extra 2011 Topps Rookie insert in the diamond card's place.   I think I am going to try and complete the Rookie set - any of my extras will be for trade however.

Next up, the second of the parallel sets that I'm collecting the Reds from, the Platinum Anniversary cards.  Once again, I managed to pull a Red (and once again, all the non-Reds are for trade).

The last of the parallels, the 1975 minis, didn't provide me with any Reds (which is unfortunate).  I did, however, get a few cards that I am sure will make nice trade bait in my attempt to track down the Reds from the set!

Now that the parallels are out of the way, let's look at some of the rarer inserts (at least in terms of number of inserts per box).  This was a rather Rockies-heavy box as I got the Tulowitzki box topper along with a Rockie in the Topps Venezuelan set and a Rockie stand-up.

I'm guessing there will be plenty of interest in the two sticker cards - Chipper Jones and Ichiro, probably two of the more popular current players in the set!

And finally, the two Topps 3D cards.

This is another set that I'm still on the fence about whether or not to collect.  I guess I'll see how many I am still missing after opening all my boxes up - that might be be enough to convince me one way or the other.

Next up, the hits of the box.

We begin with the sticker autograph - Clay Buchholz.

I guess he's a decent name to get, but I don't have any interest in his card.  I do know, however, that there are a lot of Red Sox collectors out there - so maybe one of them can offer me something good for this one.

The on-card auto wasn't much better (at least for me):  Fausto Carmona.

Once again, it's for trade.

Last (but certainly not least), the 1975 relic.  This card is awesome!

First, it's awesome because it's a retired player.  Second, it's awesome because the cloth is bright yellow (and shows signs of some stiching that was removed at the bottom).  Third, it's aseome because it's Reggie freaking Jackson!

All told, this box would have been much more loved in the hands of a Rockies collector.  Even so, there was enough good stuff to make me happy (the relic specifically along with the couple of Reds parallels).  There are still four more boxes to go in the case, let's see what else I can get from those!

  1. Sorry Chris, I got every one of those Rocks from the CG case break. Any 75 minis or sparklies that are not Helton I do need though. Oh and the refractors that are not Larry Walker. I am pretty sure I have everything else from this set (minus relics and autos.

  4. Oooh. I could use the Jon Lesters that you pick up from your case. I have a ton of stuff from your wants list.

The Clay autograph is nice too...hmm...I don't think I have much Reds for that though :(

  7. I'm way behind on my reading, but just wanted to check and see if the Buchholz was still available or if it had been traded away.
