Let's bust two more packs before calling it quits for tonight. This is my first time ever seeing (let alone opening) a box of '99 Flair Showcase. Upon opening the top of the box, I was greeted with a felt lining with two plastic slots for the 24 packs. Will the fancy packaging be matched by some fancy cards? Let's find out!
As you can see, there are all sorts of goodies in the packs - and some rather complicated seeding ratios! Let's see what we get and whether or not I'm capable of figuring out what is going on with each pack.
1999 Flair Showcase:
Pack 1:
Seat 3 - Row 9 - Showtime: Tony Gwynn - Padres
Seat 3 - Row 86 - Showdown: Todd Walker - Twins
Seat 3 - Row 115 - Showpiece: Jeremy Burnitz - Brewers
Seat 2 - Row 9 - Showdown: Tony Gwynn - Padres
Seat 1 - Row 124 - Showdown: Jeff Kent - Giants #2530 of 6000
Phew, a bit confusing but this is how I see it. The "common" cards are Seat 3's, with Seat 2's being a bit rarer, and the Seat 1's are serially numbered. As for the pack winner, this is the hardest to decide...the Padres get the nod with their two different Tony Gwynn cards (narrowly edging the Giants and the serially numbered Kent card).
Pack 02:
Seat 3 - Row 35 - Showtime: Frank Thomas - White Sox
Seat 3 - Row 48 - Showtime: Scott Hunter - Mets
Seat 3 - Row 85 - Showdown: Todd Hundley - Dodgers
Seat 2 - Row 89 - Showpiece: Corey Koskie - Twins
Seat 2 - Row 102 - Showtime: Edgar Martinez - Mariners
That's not a bad pack, though I think the first pack was quite a bit better. I do know that I hope we pull a bunch of Reds as these cards are pretty darn cool (and shiny)! In order to determine the pack winner, it's either the White Sox (with Thomas) or the Mariners (with Edgar) but the vote goes to Seattle since Edgar's card is a rarer parallel.
So, what do all of you think of Flair Showcase? It sure seems worthy of the packaging so far to me - very nice! The group break is shaping up to be a good one so far (even if the Reds are lacking so far). Lot's of good stuff to come (hopefully) including three boxes that are still unopened!

It took me three years to figure out '99 Flair Showcase, and I'm still not convinced I have a complete handle on it. Hoping this break clears it up.
ReplyDeleteI love it, enjoying the serial numbered giant!
