Group Break: 2000 Fleer Tradition: Packs 1 - 3

Alright - it took a couple of days but I can finally stop with the group break sign-up posts (and begging) and begin the fun...  We will start with three packs out of the largest box (in terms of number of packs and number of cards) - 2000 Fleer Tradition.

According to the pack wrapper, the set has 450 base cards plus 9 insert sets.  If we are lucky, we'll get a Fresh Ink autograph (seeded 1:144 packs) and if we are really lucky we'll get a Club 3000 Memorabilia Card.  I've never seen one of the Club 3000 Memorabilia cards in person so that'd be an awesome way to start off the new year's worth of group breaks!

Enough chatter though, let's get ripping!

2000 Fleer Tradition:
Pack 01:

24.  Dave Borkowski / Jason Wood - Tigers

97.  Montreal Expos - Nationals
171.  Jay Bell - Diamondbacks
253.  Jeff Fassero - Red Sox
262.  Glenallen Hill - Cubs
299.  Omar Olivares - Athletics
314.  Jason Schmidt - Pirates

317.  Chris Widger - Nationals
357.  Pittsburgh Pirates - Pirates
5 of 15 WW:  Who to Watch:  Chad Hermansen - Pirates

I forgot just how much I LOVE this set!  I like the dual photos, I love the card stock, and I'm always a sucker for some die-cut inserts!  The Pirates were the clear winner of the first pack of the break seeing how they landed the only insert card plus a pair of base cards.  The Who to Watch cards are seeded 1:3 packs so we should still get 11 more of them in the box!

Pack 2:
13.  Kyle Farnsworth - Cubs
84.  Eric Davis - Cardinals
207.  Dante Bichette - Reds
252.  Randy Wolf / Anthony Shumaker - Phillies

257.  Darin Erstad - Angels
288.  Gabe Kapler - Rangers
301.  Matt Stairs - Athletics
313.  John Franco - Mets
334.  Desi Relaford - Phillies
433.  Seattle Mariners - Mariners

Just for fun, I decided to keep track of the "winning" team from each pack of the group break - sometimes that choice will be easy (as it was in the first pack) while other times it will be more challenging (such as this pack).  I believe that the Phillies deserve the nod though given that they had a pair of base cards while no other team had more than one (and no true superstars to speak of showed up either).

And one more pack for this post:

Pack 03:
134.  Scott Karl - Rockies
161.  Mike Sirotka - White Sox
197.  Ken Caminiti - Astros
208.  Craig Biggio - Astros
247.  Philadelphia Phillies - Phillies
269.  Fred McGriff - Rays
287.  Harold Baines - Orioles

291.  Brad Ausmus - Tigers
324.  Tony Womack - Diamondbacks
7 of 15 D.  Dividends:  Jeff Bagwell - Astros

Another pack, another pack winner - and this one is the easiest choice of all.  The Astros landed a Dividends insert card (seeded 1:6 packs) along with possible future Hall of Famer Craig Biggio and a third Astros base card.  Not a bad haul at all for a single pack!

I hope you are all enjoying the break so far - three packs, three pack winners (and all three were primary claimed teams which is nice for the participants).  At this point, there are still ten teams without a card (including the Yankees of all teams) but that will change soon I'm sure!
