A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Delivery Time: My Brother Hooks Me Up With Da Shiny!

Once again, a big shout out to my little brother...he recently sent me a big 'ol package of 2011 Topps Diamond parallels...48 more of them to be precise!  That ended up being almost half of the total number of diamond cards that I was missing!  As of this moment, it now is beginning to look like I might actually be able to finish off the 2011 parallel set...  Before I show the cards that he sent me, here are the ones that I still need (57 total):
 Diamond Parallels (see contest): 83, 138, 306, 339, 342, 343, 356, 369, 371, 376, 377, 380, 381, 388, 389, 396, 397, 400, 403, 407, 408, 424, 440, 442, 453, 455, 462, 464, 484, 504, 509, 511, 517, 520, 528, 529, 531, 533, 534, 537, 540, 548, 550, 561, 573, 579, 582, 596, 603, 605, 612, 626, 640, 647, 649, 652, 657
Now, of the 48 shiny cards that he sent my way - some of them stood out:

635.  Jason Heyward

I'm starting to think about Fantasy baseball again...and I have to wonder.  What round will Heyward typically be picked in?  It seems that many Braves fans have begun to give up on Heyward (at least according to the guys who call in on MLB Radio)...what do you all think?

593.  Francisco Cordero

I posted a reply over at The Tao of Steib's article on Coco but I don't see it there anymore.  Either it didn't work...or my snarkiness in relation to Cordero's penchant for pitching into (and then out of) trouble didn't sit well...

543.  Texas Rangers

Here's a celebration shot...something that in small doses is a lot of fun - but in large doses....well, no thanks Topps.  Actually, I take that back.  I kind of like the various celebration shots I've seen in the 2012 Topps set...unfortunately, I decided not to buy any of the set so I won't be acquiring the cards regardless of the fact that I like them.

379.  Ben Francisco

I don't know much about Ben but I do know that I like the outfield wall all sparkly in the card.  Couple that with the warning track and you've got a really nice looking diamond parallel.

You might think with all the diamond cards that the package was good enough - but no, my brother managed to top himself by also included the two Barry Larkin cards from the 2012 Topps set that had eluded me up until this point.  As of now, I have the two inserts (plus the relic which I bought on eBay).  As far as I know, there are no other Larkin cards in the set - but if I'm wrong someone let me know!

Timeless Talents:

Does Cabrera really belong on this card at this point in his career?  I'm thinking no.  I was a bit surprised to learn that he has 43 HRs in his career already while Larkin only had 198 in total.  Cabrera also had a 20 HR season at a younger age than Larkin, so maybe in retrospect the comparison isn't completely off.  Of course, Larkin did sport a career average of .295 while Cabrera has only hit .281 in a much shorter career up to now.

Golden Moments:

Every comment I've read about this is dead on...the white space may look really nice if there were a signature there, but since there isn't, it's bad design!  That said, I'm extremely happy to add both of these cards to my Barry Larkin Collection - I'll have to get a few more posts done for that series soon.  I still have a stack of probably 200 or so cards that I haven't had a chance to scan and write about yet!  Heck, it might be more than 200 cards, I really don't know...I should get on that.

Thanks for all the cards bro!  And, as always, if anyone else would like to trade - check out my want list and make an offer!
