A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Group Break: 2003 Donruss Heroes - Packs 10, 11, 12, and 13

We've had a great run of group break posts...will the Donruss Heroes box continue to impress?  From what I can tell, there aren't any other major hits expected from the box.  The pack isn't perfectly clear, but from how I read it we should have gotten one hit and one serially numbered card.  With our serially numbered auto and a serially numbered card (1 out of 3 no less), I have to say that we did really well...especially since this box was basically included to ensure that each team ended up with plenty of cards!

Enough chatter, let's rip packs and see what we get:

Pack 10:
Willie Harris - White Sox
Rodrigo Lopez - Orioles
Brad Volyles - Royals
Wily Mo Pena - Reds
Billy Wagner - Astros
Vladimir Guerrero - Expos
Christian Parker - Yankees
Tike Redman - Pirates
Felix Escalona - Rays
Eric Hinkse - Blue Jays
Warren Spahn - Braves

Fred Lynn - Red Sox
Glossy parallel:  Larry Bigbie - Orioles

This is the third Orioles parallel in the group break - tying them with the White Sox for the lead in that particular category.  The parallel, coupled with the other base card, is also enough to give the Orioles their second pack win of the break (pushing them one ahead of the White Sox for that particular category).  Of course, Baltimore is still two pack victories behind teams like the Yankees and Red Sox...isn't that just the way things go?

Pack 11:
Carlos Baerga - Red Sox
John Smoltz - Braves
Kevin Brown - Dodgers
Mike Maroth - Tigers
Jose Hernandez - Brewers
Jorge Padilla - Phillies
Victor Alvarez - Dodgers
Ruben Sierra - Mariners
Chuck Finley - Cardinals
Bob Feller - Indians
Phil Rizzuto - Yankees
Carlton Fisk - Red Sox

Glossy parallel:  Dustin Hermanson - Red Sox

The Red Sox had a good showing in the pack - certainly more than enough to net them their fifth pack win (and the overall lead in that category)!

Pack 12:
Matt Ginter - White Sox
Josh Towers - Orioles
Luke Hudson - Reds
Greg Miller - Astros
Nick Neugebauer - Brewers
Brett Myers - Phillies
Aramis Ramirez - Pirates
Carl Crawford - Rays
Reed Johnson - Blue Jays
Luis Aparicio - White Sox
Will Clark - Rangers
Glossy parallel:  Tim Spooneybarger - Braves
Stat Line:  Tony Womack - Diamondbacks #130/160
This card looks much, much better than it does in the scan.  It's actually a silver and purple border which compliments the Diamondbacks team colors.

Well, I was wrong!  I thought we'd only get one Stat Line card in the box but here's our second already.  Maybe we'll land a few more before all is said and done...shows what I know about this set!  The Womack card stat is based on his total number of hits in 2002.  This card would have been a lot more valuable if it were numbered out of his total home runs or triple (5 each).  Even so, it's a nice pick up for a team that doesn't often get a lot of cool cards.  It also gives the Diamondbacks their first pack win of the break.

Pack 13:
John Enis - Braves
Tim Wakefield - Red Sox
Roy Oswalt - Astros
Ricardo Rodriguez - Indians
Todd Helton - Rockies
Jermaine Dye - Athletics
Jimmy Rollins - Phillies
Mike Piazza - Mets
Cody Random - Giants
Chris Snelling - Mariners
Honus Wagner - Pirates
Randy Johnson - Mariners
Glossy parallel:  Chipper Jones - Braves

The majority of our glossy parallels have been of "lesser players" so it's nice to pull one of a legitimate star.  The Braves nab their fourth pack win of the break with the final pack of this particular post.
