A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Group Break: 4 Packs of 2002 Fleer Showcase

Happy Friday!  Here's a great way to start your morning - 4 more packs from the group break, including some cool cards...scroll down!

Pack 3:
73.  Raul Mondesi - Blue Jays
75.  Brian Giles - Pirates

93.  Steve Cox - Rays
96.  Sean Casey - Reds
120.  Jeff Weaver - Tigers

I happen to like the Sean Casey card since I didn't previously own it...but overall this is a pretty dull pack.  I'll give the pack win to the Pirates though since the Giles card looks really great with the Pirates gray border.

Pack 4:
32.  Garret Anderson - Angels
76.  Paul Konerko - White Sox
80.  Edgar Martinez - Mariners
115.  Kazuhiro Sasaki - Mariners
128.  Avant Card:  Nomar Garciaparra - Red Sox

Normally, a team that monopolizes two of the five spots in a pack would be the shoo-in for pack winner.  However, this is not a normal pack - the Avant Card is too cool to not give the pack win to the Red Sox.  Unlike the regular base cards, the Avant Card is printed on a canvas-esque material which really adds to the artistic illusion.  I don't know the details of the set well enough to say for certain, but I'm going to consider this an insert for the Red Sox despite the fact that it is consecutively numbered with the rest of the base set.  That was a very Fleer thing to do back in the early 00s.  I should mention that the card is also a bit thicker than a regular base card too, furthering the "special" feel of the card!

Pack 05:

14.  Aaron Sele - Angels
41.  Carlos Delgado - Blue Jays
43.  Brian Jordan - Dodgers
71.  Manny Ramirez - Red Sox

118.  Todd Walker - Reds

For the second consecutive pack (and third time overall), I have to give the pack win to the Boston Red Sox.  Manny is really the only player of note in the pack so the choice wasn't difficult.

Pack 06:

21.  Bobby Higginson - Tigers
45.  Paul Lo Duca - Dodgers
91.  Cristian Guzman - Twins
Baseball's Best relic:  Mike Piazza - Mets

Our first relic from the Fleer Showcase box (hits are seeded 1:8 packs overall so we ought to find two more before all is said and done).  This is the second relic for the Mets - and it's fairly nice except for the fact that it appears there was a foil issue at the bottom of the card.  Even so, a Piazza relic is nice - congrats to the Mets on their second hit of the break already (according to the pack wrapper, the Baseball's Best relics are seeded 1:12 packs.)!  Easy pack win for the Mets - it'd be really hard to not get the pack win for whichever team has the hit in the pack!
