Group Break 3: Fleer Circa '96 - Four Mini Boxes

The Fleer Circa cards come in mini boxes that are wrapped in plastic.  Once you open up the mini box, the actual pack of cards is also wrapped in clear plastic.  For as much packaging as there is for the set, you'd think it would look a bit fancier (and a bit less like it was designed by an 8-year-old hopped up on Kool-Aid and gummy bears.

Pack 9:
6.  Randy Myers - Orioles
21.  Troy Percival - Angels
66.  Tino Martinez - Yankees

75.  Todd Van Poppel - Athletics
97.  Ed Sprague - Blue Jays
168.  Ricky Otero - Phillies
178.  Ray Lankford - Cardinals
188.  Wally Joyner - Padres

Other than the Tino, there really wasn't a whole lot of note in that pack.  What a disappointing pack that would have been to purchase new!

Pack 10:
25.  Harold Baines - White Sox
40.  Bob Higginson - Tigers
55.  Marty Cordova - Twins
99.  Tom Glavine - Braves
128.  Jeff Conine - Marlins
148.  Yamil Benitez - Expos
193.  Shawon Dunston - Giants
28 of 50.  Boss:  John Smoltz - Braves

There are 50 different Boss cards in the set - and seeing that they are seeded 1:6 packs, good luck completing it without trading (and before eBay)!

Pack 11:
1.  Roberto Alomar - Orioles

16.  Jim Abbott - Angels
74.  Tery Steinbach - Athletics
113.  Steve Trachsel - Cubs
121.  Ellis Burks - Rockies
145.  Chan Ho Park - Dodgers
163.  Ron Blazier - Phillies
183.  Andy Ashby - Padres

Want to feel old?  Most college freshman would have only been a couple of years old by the time Circa came out in 1996.  That's right, college freshman!  Oye vey.

Pack 12:
15.  Tim Wakefield - Red Sox
59.  Kirby Puckett - Twins
84.  Will Clark - Rangers
132.  Devon White - Marlins
134.  Derek Bell - Astros
152.  David Segui - Expos
160.  Alex Ochoa - Mets
30 of 50.  Boss:  Sammy Sosa - Cubs

Yes, that Sosa card looks much more green than it does blue...  It looks like a Marlins teal actually, it's weird given that it is a Cubs card!

The downside to the four packs was that between them we ended up with 8 duplicates from the box...  I was hoping we'd get the complete set (and maybe we still will) but still, seeing duplicates already isn't always a great sign.
