Today's post is another success story for my Trade Stack series. Dayf (Cardboard Junkie) claimed one of my stacks (I think it was something to do with a Jason Heyward card that I had no desire to keep). In return, he promised to send me a regular back mini card that I needed for my 2012 Ginter set (which he did).
258. Doug Fister
As far as I was concerned, that was enough (that's the idea of the Trade Stack after all, I turn a stack of stuff I don't want into a card that I do). However, Dayf wasn't through with me yet. He also managed to Donruss'd me (as he called it)...
Unfortunately for me, out of the stack of 1991 beauties that he sent me, I only need a pair of 'em. The others...well...I guess I'll have to wait until I see someone else who decides to collect the set.
You didn't possibly read this far and not expect to see some Donruss scans, now did you? The two cards I needed were of Ted Higuera and Brady Anderson.
Higuera:
Anderson:
Look back at those photos - which player do you think had to use steroids to bulk up? I don't care what anyone says, there's no way Anderson could 50 homers with that scrawny physique. It'd be like me hitting 50 homers (which probably couldn't happen unless you gave me three swings - each where the previous hit landed). According to Anderson's bio on the back of the card, he is 6'1" and 195 pounds. For crying out loud, I'm 5'10" (maybe more - haven't measured myself since I figured I was done growing) and probably 160 pounds. In fact, I bet that those bats that Brady is trying to hold actually weigh more than he does.
Dayf wasn't finished yet - there was a nice Barry Larkin odd ball card (this one is from Hostess):
And, as he's known to do - a Dayf original sketch card (also of Larkin).
Hall of Famer, you betcha.
Finally, as if all the other goodies weren't enough - he also included the sweetest custom card that I've ever held in my possession. This Allen & Ginter-esque card was made by PunkRockPaint and is extra awesome.
Heck, even the back pays perfect homage to the "ad back" cards of Ginter sets of yore. Yeah, I wanted to use the word yore when talking about Ginter.
Thanks for the trade Dayf! And, as always, if anyone else would like to trade - check out my want list and make an offer!
