Things I Won't Do.

My youngest brother is a senior in college - and thanks to some sort of incredibly lax rules at his college, I am able to play on his intramural soccer team despite being neither a student nor a university employee (ok, not an employee of his school)!  Last night was our first game of the year - and you better believe that this old man is sore.  Of course, I would probably feel a bit better if I hadn't agreed to hop in a 4v4 volleyball game that picked up moments after our soccer game ended.

What's the point of this?  Well, there isn't much I won't do - even if I know I'll pay for it later in sore muscles.  Unfortunately (or maybe it should be fortunately), that same "can do" attitude doesn't permeate a lot of other areas of my life.  I'm definitely cautious when it comes to things like jobs and finances.

Finally, there are a few areas in my life where I simply won't do something.  For example:
  • I won't do drugs.  Never have, never will.
  • I won't ever choose having a cat over having a dog.
  • I won't back down from an argument when I'm convinced I'm right (and I'm convinced the outcome matters).
  • I won't engage in political talks with people I don't know.  You can argue with buffoons and too many people who want to argue politics are buffoons (on both sides of the political aisle).
  • I won't eat swiss cheese or black olives if I can help it.
  • I won't make any attempt to visit Mexico again (I would go back to most of the other counties I've been too however).
  • I won't ever compromise my standards in the classes I teach.  I will, however, work with students who are willing to work with me.
  • I won't get a haircut until I absolutely need one.  I'm not much better with oil changes for my car.
  • I won't snowboard if skiing is an option.
  • I won't ever say that just because it's snowing out I can't use my grill to cook up a delicious dinner.
  • I won't ever understand why people like Katy Perry's songs.  Same for Taylor Swift.  Unless you are teenager, anything teenagers do or think is beyond the limits of rational analysis anyway.
  • I won't get fat because of deserts.  I might because of things like chips (Nachos!) and dip.
  • I won't stop enjoying "kids" things like baseball cards and video games.
  • I won't allow myself to be consumed by "kids" things however.
  • I won't argue with my wife about aesthetics.  She's right and I should always know it.
  • I won't turn down most trade requests on my blog, even if I think I'm getting the short end of the proverbial stick.
  • And finally, I won't be buying any Topps Chrome ($20 for what, 16 cards?  No thanks).  The same goes for Topps Heritage...at least until I track down the short prints that I need for all the other Heritage sets that I've already begun.

What won't you do?

  1. I don't like arguing politics either. Most political arguees are idiots (Fanatical iDIOTS) and if it's one thing in life I've most definitely learned in my 44 years on this globe. NEVER, and I mean N E V E R argue with idiots, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time!!

  5. I won't deal with Bowman cards from the last decade or so or whenever they split them into Draft, Prospects, etc. It's too confusing.

I won't scotch tape a team bag with a perfectly viable adhesive strip.

I won't throw away the 30 lbs. of old top loaders I've amassed over the years even though I'll never use them and they don't recycle.

I won't draft Tom Brady to my fantasy team. Sorry sportscasters, he's just not God.

Gotta laugh at the list ... and I won't support Bud Selig!

Off topic - Saturday's post on my blog will celebrate a special occasion - thus a party. I would be honored with your presence, after all, you were the very first to comment there four years ago. Meanwhile, hope all is well with you ... and Go Reds!
