The 1997 Pinnacle Xpress box has 1 metal works card, 1 8 card master deck, and 1 8 card hobby pack, plus two game cards (according to the front of the box). Let's rip this puppy open in one swoop, shall we?
First, the 8 card Master Deck:
28. Dante Bichette - Rockies
57. Cal Ripken Jr. - Orioles
77. Travis Fryman - Tigers
88. Mo Vaughn - Red Sox
93. John Jaha - Brewers
127. Brooks Kieschnick - Cubs
133. Matt Morris - Cardinals
145. Tony Clark - Tigers
Home runs 37
You needed to get the card of the home run champion and the card with the correct number in order to win a prize, that's as much as I get out of the game rules. As for the master deck, the Bichette is a standard base card. only the Fryman was gold foiled (a Men of Summer card seeded 1:7 packs) and the Clark was the only card with a special team logo gold stamp. Weirdness.
Next up, the 8 card Hobby pack.

Remember kids: Be strong - don't use drugs. |
11. Cecil Fielder - Yankees
26. Garret Anderson - Angels
72. Dean Palmer - Rangers
92. Ryan Klesko - Braves
104. Raul Mondesi - Dodgers
114. Michael Tucker - Braves
126. Jose Cruz Jr. - Mariners
145. Tony Clark - Tigers (again)
Swing for the Fences: Larry Walker - Rockies
The Swing for the Fences player cards are inserted 1:2 packs.
Finally, the biggest reason that I bought the box and put it as part of the group break - the metal card!
9. Juan Gonzalez - Rangers
This is the bronze version (the common version) which is actually a good thing since I believe the silver and gold versions were redemptions (which would mean we'd get no metal card). The card itself (if you want to call it that) is actually a huge, heavy hunk of metal! In fact, I'm guessing you could melt that card down and make some sort of bronze* object out of it if you really wanted to.
*to be fair, I have no idea if it really is bronze, but it is really heavy like bronze.
So, the big question: Who gets the pack win for this box? I think I have to give it to the Rangers - that metal card is simply too awesome - especially since it is the box hit!
I can't tell, does Juan-Gone have a mustache on that bronze card?
ReplyDeleteFinally some decent Tiger cards!
