The Great Allen & Ginter Race

Anyone that has read my blog for a few weeks or more probably has seen one of my many trade stack posts.  Basically, the essence of the trade stack is that I start a pile of cards and keep adding to it until eventually it becomes good enough that someone "bites" and claims the entire stack in return for at least one card off of my want list.  One of my latest stacks was claimed by Bob over at '59 Topps.

Bob ended up with a pile of assorted cards (see the stack here).  In return, he sent me three cards off my want list - all from the 2012 edition of Topps Allen & Ginter.

First up, one of the two remaining code cards that I still need.

Quite honestly, I'm shocked at how long it has taken me to even get to the point of needing one more of the 50 code cards.  Since the Ginter code was broken fairly quickly, these would appear to have no further value.  Maybe people use them as packing material or something rather than realizing that there are a few poor suckers out there who are actually collecting the thing.  Anyhow, thanks to Bob I now only need one more card:  Trudy Givens.

The next two cards were both from the regular back mini set.

The Griffey Jr. card is one of the nicest cards in the set if you ask me - so I was obviously excited to get it in mini form.

As for the post title, here's the race part:

Which 2012 Allen & Ginter set will I finish first?  As I mentioned above, I only need one more code card - but then again, I only need a few more cards from most of the sets.  In case you are wondering, you can see my full want list by clicking the link - or refer to the 2012 A&G want list below.

I'm willing to bet that I won't finish the currency set first - or, most likely at all.  In fact, since I'm going to have to figure out some way to generate some funds for this year's edition of Allen & Ginter, there's a fairly good chance that I'll end up selling the currency cards that I do have.  It's a shame - but sometimes that is what one has to do!

Thanks for the trade Bob - and for helping edge the 2012 A&G race a bit closer to completion!  As always, if anyone else would like to trade - check out my want list and make an offer!
