Barry Larkin
Year: 2000
Brand: Topps Opening Day
Card number: 37
The Opening Day brand doesn't get much love from me (it usually feels like the cheap rip-off of the flagship set that it actually is). However, there have been select years where the Topps Opening Day set is actually fairly nice - 2000 being one of those years, at least for Barry Larkin!
The front of the card features a nice action shot - complete with the appearance of Barry jumping over the runner and the gigantic Opening Day logo. The back of the card is standard fare, though the single line of text is amusing (by 2000 Larkin had accumulated plenty of personal statistics). This card is proof that you don't have to have a lot of glitz, gloss, or bits of fabric to make a nice card (which is what Opening Day should be all about)!
